THE SECRET POLICE, 2085-2086
In the baptism of nuclear annihilation, most US government agencies had managed to survive. Inside the FEMA camps that dotted the landscape of the continental USA, the lines between once-distinct entities such as the FBI, CIA, ATF, and IRS were blurred into insignificance. In the face of rampant crime and overwhelming poverty, the government was compelled to devise new strategies for control over the masses. Thus, out of necessity, the Eastern Police Force (EPF) emerged, laying the groundwork for what would eventually become the Federal Law Authority (FLA).
Combining the forces of the former three-letter government agencies, the EPF assumed the responsibility of maintaining order within the FEMA camps. As a clandestine police force, their influence expanded alongside the creation of the Eastern Union (EU). Their mission was clear: infiltrate anti-government factions, preemptively quell any uprising, and uphold their authority by any means necessary. The EPF's iron fist and ruthless tactics led to thousands of arrests, with yet unconfirmed rumors of hundreds of anti-government actors going missing or turning up dead in their homes. Many historians credit their brutal resistance against anarchists as the sole barrier that prevented the FEMA camps from collapsing early on.
Yet, with the dissolution of the Eastern Union and the rise of pro-NEU officials, the EPF found itself ousted, branded as "anti-American" and "excessively totalitarian". As the borders between the NEU and the SU took shape, certain factions within the EPF pledged their loyalty to the Northeast, setting themselves apart from their Southern counterparts by donning a simple blue armband, which would eventually become the revered blue beret worn by FLA officers today.
THE THIRTY YEAR WAR, 2086-2116
In the Thirty Year War, when the NEU’s Early Militia fought tooth and nail to reclaim cities lost to raiders and anarchists, the FLA were tasked with establishing law & order in the territories far behind the frontlines. Some historical accounts speak of the extraordinary valor displayed by some FLA officers, who, instead of only staying in the rear echelons, took it upon themselves to aid the Early Militia in fighting on the frontlines. While the exact involvement of the FLA in the Thirty Year War may have been lost to time, the profound effect of the FLA’s contributions cannot be understated.
A statue of faceless FLA officers, who went above and beyond and fought on the frontlines of the war, was erected in front of the White House in Douglass in 2116, a statue that stands even today as a testament to the FLA's long service to the Union.
FEDERAL STATE POLICE
The Federal State Police, responsible for maintaining law and order, forms an integral part of the NEU's security apparatus. Committed to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens, these dedicated FLA officers can be seen patrolling the cities of the Union, collaborating closely with USRF patrol units to ensure maximum stability. With a decentralized structure, each large city boasts its own police force under the umbrella of the Federal State Police. Among them, the Douglass State Police and the New York State Police have garnered significant recognition for their commitment to upholding the law. Clad in distinctive attire, these officers wear balaclavas, dark navy blue uniforms and green reflective armbands, undoubtedly signalling their authority and affiliation.
Equipped with a range of tools and utilities to effectively carry out their duties, the Federal State Police relies on Mendel as their primary sidearm during routine patrols, having a contract with Mendel to keep the stream of weapons flowing into the FLA's hands. However, when confronted with emergencies demanding a quick response, they may be seen with heavier weaponry. At times the Federal State Police has even been seen with decommissioned USRF armored personnel carriers and, more rarely, main battle tanks.

RECLAMATION FORCE POLICE CORPS
The RFPC (Reclamation Force Police Corps), also known as just Military Police, assumes a crucial role as the law enforcement branch of the USRF. Tasked with upholding order and discipline within the NEU's armed forces, their responsibilities extend beyond conventional policing duties. With a broad spectrum of responsibilities, the Military Police actively engages in a range of operations. From executing police and detention operations to conducting internal investigations, they remain committed to preserving the integrity of the USRF. In a testament to their versatility, Military Police units often collaborate seamlessly with other USRF formations, participating in joint patrols to maintain security and enforce regulations.
Beyond their primary role, the RFPC also assume the critical responsibility of safeguarding the security of USRF military installations. Through their presence, they deter potential breaches and also ensure that servicemen adhere to military law, fostering both discipline and order. Moreover, they are entrusted with the protection and management of detention camps dispersed across USRF military installations, the most notable of which is Black Mountain Complex, maintaining order and overseeing the welfare of detainees. The Military Police notably uses working dogs in their day-to-day duties, which are trained to locate contraband and keeping detainees detained.
This branch is present in ATF 8 and is available for roleplay by all FLA members.
BORDER GUARD SERVICE
The Border Guard Service (BGS) assumes an important role in the NEU's security apparatus, tasked with securing the Union's vast borders. Their responsibilities are multifaceted and demanding. In a region marked by deteroiating relations to the North, having the persistent challenge of curbing wasteland smuggling operations from the West, and the ongoing war in the South, the BGS have plenty of work to do. To confront these threats, the BGS leverages technology and makes use of highly advanced equipment. Equipped with state-of-the-art drones and other sophisticated devices, they maintain an extensive surveillance network to detect and deter any breaches. BGS officers are armed with long-range scoped rifles, such as the formidable SR-57 Mod 4 Delta, allowing them to address threats swiftly and decisively. These well-prepared and highly trained officers stand as the first line of defense against those seeking to breach the NEU's borders.
On any given day, the BGS captures over two dozen smugglers attempting to infiltrate the Union. Their awareness ensures that hundreds more are turned away on a daily basis, reinforcing the NEU's commitment to maintaining absolute security at its borders.

RAPID RESPONSE UNITS
The Rapid Response Units (RRU) were officially established following the Thirty Year War, though similar units in concept have been in use since the time of the Eastern Union. The RRU are FLA strike teams designed to eliminate high threat targets regardless of where they appear. RRU strike teams are often deployed against eldritch mutant outbreaks, rotten military droids, or active shooters. In order to rapidly deploy to deal with the sudden appearances of these high threat targets, the RRU makes heavy use of vehicles. In urban regions of the NEU, RRU strike teams make use of AVs or helicopters, while in rural regions they usually make use of ground vehicles.

FEDERAL SECURITY SERVICE
The Federal Security Service (FSS) stands as the most clandestine branch of the FLA, shrouded in secrecy and with a portion of its operations classified from the public eye. This elusive branch assumes a dual role, serving the NEU both in its military endeavors and as a law enforcement entity. Renowned for their exceptional training in anti-terror operations, counterintelligence, and surveillance, the FSS operates at the forefront of protecting the NEU from threats, both within and outside its borders. Though allegations of domestic surveillance have surfaced in the past, these claims remain as mere rumors that lack solid ground. As a domestic force, the FSS primarily engages in missions of national significance, swiftly deploying to address grave emergencies such as acts of terrorism and the containment of escalating demonstrations.
Venturing beyond the NEU's borders and into the wasteland, the FSS assumes a distinct role in combating groups that have been designated as terrorist organizations by NEU authorities. Answering solely to their internal chain of command, the FSS operates with autonomy and does not take orders from regular USRF and FLA units.
This branch is currently not present in ATF 8 and will only be available during Story Events.
REVENUE ENFORCEMENT AGENCY
The Revenue Enforcement Agency (REA) is a branch of the FLA that is responsible for enforcing and collecting taxes from NEU citizens, corporations, and frontiersmen program settlements. They are able to issue their own versions of "Warrants" as "Audits", in order to look into the finances of NEU entities. Their headquarters is based in Douglass, though they on occasion send out their agents to distant settlements on the frontier of the NEU. As the old saying goes; nothing is certain except death and taxes.
This branch is present in ATF 8 and is available for roleplay by all FLA members.
NORTHEAST MARSHALS SERVICE
The Northeast Marshals Service (NMS) is a branch of the FLA responsible for executing arrest warrants and hunting down wanted fugitives of national interest to the NEU, both domestically and abroad. The Marshals Service has garnered quite the reputation over the years for its ruthless agents, who are required to request to be transferred in from other FLA branches after 2 years of completed service. Marshals typically work alone or in pairs, and will more often than not be almost entirely self-independent. They are paid monthly by the government, but they may additionally earn money turning in bounties at their own leisure. Marshals are found all over the continent, particularly in the wasteland where most criminals flee to escape persecution. Here they are renowned as ruthless bounty hunters, more often than not taking bounties that have no national interest to kill time.
The Marshals Service is the only branch of the FLA to allow its agents to wear anything they please, so long as it is befitting of the environment. They are most known for their badge, which is typically worn on their chest or around their neck. They are trained to use any weapon platform they come across, with most opting to bring a personal firearm rather than use the standard issue ones.
