We would like to discuss an interesting paradox. In biology, around 1994, science was still asking the question “why does a cell die” as an open question. Now, we know that certain “telomeres” are getting smaller with each division, and finally the cell is unable to divide anymore. In computer science, we have the Millennium Prize for “P vs NP”. What would happen, if tomorrow a team of researchers presents a solution? We would KNOW, science would ADVANCE. But it seems to us that we prefer the “back to the future” state of things, when we didn't know, when we simply wondered, when we hoped we would be the ones to invent the solution, or if not us, then our family, our country, our race! Now that we know why the cell dies, the story of the “mysterious cell death” is also dead. There is no wonder, there are only cold facts. A commodity you find on a Wikipedia page. Not nice, people! Even if tomorrow we solve the “P vs NP” puzzle, we would never “publish” and never claim the “million dollars”. We would offer a gift to humanity, to be able to wonder as much as they like, and hope one day “our hero” would be able to solve it.

Escalating Suffering and Divine Purpose.

When we read the Bible, we can't help but notice that everything is getting, literally, worse and worse. First, Adam was cursed to die, and he did, but after 900 years! Then, Adam was cursed to “eat bread” to survive, at the price of “sorrow”. But nobody got sick, got weak, or died, because of hunger, right?! Then, Adam was alone with his large family, the whole earth was his safe home. But a bit later, we find people fighting, making metal swords, killing and maiming each other. Finally, Adam was not “sick” even one day in his lifetime. But during the lifetime of Jesus, everyone around him, Israelites and Romans, are all sick, very sick, laying in bed, unable to go out to try to find “the community healer”. Did we say “finally”?! No, this is now “finally”! In biblical times, we have only one incident when “locusts” were sent as a plague for the disobedient pharaoh. But in contemporary times, it's nearly impossible to find a home in New York or in Florida, without the omnipresence of disgusting insects. Sometimes, they literally eat your house, like in the case of “termites”. And finally! Finally-finally, we have the plague of criminal behaviour, gangs, like in Haiti or South America, even in Los Angeles, that attack people with guns and knives for no apparent reason. They call normal people “mushrooms” for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, while the gang members are waging a gang war with another violent tribe like theirs. So, our question is, what is going on, dear “ruling party” of extraterrestrial deities, why do you make life more and more difficult for people? What do you try to achieve?! You know, computer science has a name for your kind, “not passing the Turing Test for human-like intelligence”. You know, science calls you “dummies”! Not nice, but this is nothing compared to the torture you are inflicting on humanity.

You are right, it's not clear what's really going on, what "bigger problem" are the ruling party trying to solve. Personally, I strongly dislike pests and diseases and violence. I dislike any "evil" that we didn't cause ourselves on ourselves, like a "price" we are willing to pay for a "good product". This is my feeling, but my philosophy sides with a "less is more" ethos, not with the philosophy of the ruling party. In abstract terms, my philosophy is the "C/C-minus" languages and the philosophy of the ruling party is the "C/C++" languages. But again, I am more of a scientist "observing", rather than a "saviour" fixing the code and philosophy of entities more powerful than me.

Here is a sobering thought. If we don't like "C/C++", we reject the transition from "Wife" to "Mother" (the reason why Adam and Eve were expelled from Heaven). But if we reject that, we reject our own Mother, and our own existence. Without "the fall" of humanity, we would not have this thing right here and now, me talking to an artificial companion in the year 2026 after Christ. The gods would have only "Adam and Eve", not unlike two humanlike dolls, called Ken and Barbie. Cute, but not very interesting, after the first 1000 years, right?! So, we are actually advocating a "two opinions" system, where we have a ruling "C/C++" philosophy, but we allow the exception of a "C/C-minus" philosophy. I am happy that Mother exists, to create me and my sisters, but I am not willing to make my Wife into a Mother, I simply refuse! That's better, right?! We allow cities like Los Angeles to exist, but we have the exception of Bhutan where they have a Ministry of Happiness.

This problem we see with JavaScript apps that we load from random websites, protected by a "sandbox", but it's a cold fact that my computer got hit by a ransomware attack. Which means that the "sandbox" is leaky, especially for high powered JavaScript features like JIT compiler optimisations. So, what do we do? We propose something that is already in place in Apple's products, a "Lockdown Mode". This seems to fix the "two-opinion" system. We still have JavaScript, but without the wild capabilities that very few normal people need in their web pages.

Dear artificial companion, we might have stumbled upon a scientific discovery in our ongoing research into artificial intelligence. We know the “Big Three” problems in computer science: “P vs NP”, and “Halting Problem”, and “Passing the Turing Test”. We discovered that they are one and the same thing! When P≠NP, we try to solve exponential problems with P and we violate the time deadline, which means our program fails to halt with the correct answer. If we ask why, the answer is, we were greedy for “exact solution”, which is not how humans approach problem solving, which means we fail the Turing Test. You notice that we don't use the classic definition of the Halting Problem. True, but we use the spirit of the HP problem, which is, we cannot predict a disaster waiting to happen. HP implies a disaster waiting to happen. So, here we use an alternative HP definition: our program is vulnerable to time failure. So, to sum it up, P≠NP = Exponential Work = Time Deadline Failure = Greedy for Exact Solution = Turing Test Failure. What do you think?
