I’m Convenor and Branch Chair of the Merseyside Civil Engineering & Construction branch.
I have been a shop steward for 30 years, most of that time as convenor at Liverpool Council for 20 years. During that time I have fought to have the hours of construction workers at Liverpool Council
Harmonised with other council staff from 37 to a 35 hour week.
Fought during the equal pay campaign to ensure that trade operatives' pay was protected.
I successfully ran a campaign to bring a major contract for the maintenance of council buildings to be brought back in house.
I remain committed to the campaign for the provision of high quality council housing maintained by a DLO.
Supporting & building unity of workers in struggle
I have been president of Liverpool Trades Council for nearly 15 years and I used the position to help set up Liverpool Against the Cuts to defend vital council services. Recently Liverpool TUC organised a coach for the Birmingham binworker mega picket and we filled a 50 seat coach.
If elected, I will campaign to reverse the privatisation, deregulation and anti union laws that have been so damaging for construction and all workers. And I will support the general secretary's manifesto, which is winning major victories, building the confidence of worker reps and strengthening our lay member led tradition.
I support the 2021 Unite policy conference resolution calling on Labour councils to refuse to pass on Tory cuts, as well as the resolution at last year's conference in support of the Birmingham bin workers calling for a debate on our union's relationship with the Labour Party.
