We are excited to be holding auditions for our Spring musical
“The Wizard of Oz” is the story of what happens to Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl, and her little dog, Toto, when they are swept up by a cyclone and find themselves “Over the Rainbow” in the Magical Land of Oz. Join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz. Dorothy is determined to reach the Emerald City, where she plans to ask the great and powerful Wizard of Oz to help them get home to Kansas. Along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees and winged monkeys. But most importantly, she befriends three unique characters: a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man with no heart, and a Cowardly Lion.
The directors are looking for energetic actors who can enthusiastically take on a wide
range of roles in this adaptation for the stage of the 1939 film of “The Wizard of Oz”,
which is widely celebrated for its musical score, memorable characters, and iconic
songs like “Over the Rainbow”.
Dramatic/comedic ability and strong vocal skills are a must, as is a commitment to
attending all rehearsals requested by the director.

*** A few notes from the Musical Director ***
You will notice that there are two versions of the audition song 'Over the Rainbow'. The auditioner will need to be able to tell the Directors which version of the song they have prepared- the original key, or the transposed key (lower).
There are many popular renditions of 'Over the Rainbow'. When you are deciding how your would like to perform the song, the Musical Director would like to advise you of two things:
Firstly, you should perform the song in whichever way that showcases your voice the best.
Secondly, if you are interested in the role of Dorothy, and looking for guidance on voice and manner, I strongly suggest that you watch Judy Garland's performance. Pay attention to her Midwestern American accent, heavy vibrato, and rich, clear, yet dreamy voice. You might also take inspiration from other voices of the same era (think Margaret Whiting, Vera Lynn, Doris Day).
This particular adaptation of the musical strongly follows the script and feel of the original 1939 film.
