Imagine you're getting ready for a big adventure! To go on that adventure, you need to pack certain things, right? A school supply list is just like that. It's a list of things your child needs to bring to school to be ready to learn.
In Elementary Grades (K-5), teachers give a list of specific supplies for all students in a grade. You can buy those supplies ahead of time or buy them after you get the list on the first day of school. Supply lists are usually available on the school website. Be sure to send your child to school on the first day with some pencils and paper. If you cannot afford to buy school supplies, sometimes the school or community organizations can help.
The supply school list includes basic items like:
Pencils, crayons, markers
Notebooks and folders
Scissors and glue
Tissues and hand sanitizer
A backpack
Some schools ask parents to bring extra supplies for the whole class to share.
In Middle & High School (6-12), each class usually has a different supply list. Teachers send their supply list home the first time your child is in their class. Send your child to school on the first day with some pencils, pens, and paper. If you cannot afford to buy school supplies, sometimes the school or community organizations can help.
Students usually need:
Binders, notebooks, pencils, and pens for each subject
Scientific calculator for math
Gym clothes for PE. Buy these from the school
Special items like art supplies or lab notebooks for science
A backpack- check school policy. Some schools require clear backpacks. Some schools provide clear backpacks.
Older students will have more responsibility for keeping their supplies organized.
How to get the list:
The school will usually give you the supply list before school starts.
It might be on the school's website or sent home in the mail.
You can also ask the school office for a copy.
