In the U.S., many students ride a school bus to and from school for free, depending on where they live. Each school district has rules and schedules for bus transportation. Students must follow the driver’s directions.
School bus transportation is available for students who live too far from school to walk.
Some areas do not offer buses for students who live close to school.
Schools decide who rides the bus and which bus they ride
Check with the school to find out if your child can ride the bus and where the nearest bus stop is.
Bus stop & pick-up: Students wait at a designated bus stop at a set time in the morning. The bus picks them up and takes them to school.
Seat assignment: Your child may be assigned a seat to sit in every day.
Drop-off after school: Buses take students home and drop them off at the same bus stop.
Bus rules: Students must sit quietly, follow safety rules, and listen to the driver.
Late buses & delays: Weather or traffic can cause delays. Parents can often check updates on the school website.
