After the strangest robotics season to ever happen in history, we ended the season finishing 14th in our division at the Vex World Championships. We are extremely happy and humble to have met of season goal of making it to Worlds freshman season. We've learned so much this season and have showed everyone who we are, and we can't wait for next season!
Today, we met in person for the first time! We were all super excited to start building our robot. This meeting, we built a simple chassis, just so we could get a feel for how it would be to build with metal pieces, since it was our first time participating in a VRC challenge. After some trial and error, we built our first VRC chassis! We coded up a driver control program, and we were ready to drive our very first VRC creation. The first thing that we noticed is that the robot went very fast. It almost broke the side of the field after accidentally running into the wall. At our meeting next week, we are going to work more on our chassis.
The stay-at-home order in WA is finally going to end soon. One more week and gatherings of 5 or less will be allowed!!! We set up the field in Comet's Lab, and we're now ready to dive into VEX Change Up. We will finally be able to have actual meetings instead of online ones soon. To set up the field, Amanda and her dad had to move all the furniture, the TV, and TV desk out of the room. Wow, the VRC field is huge compared to the IQ field - the field takes up almost the entire room!
The equipment we ordered to get started in VRC arrived!!! With Worlds being cancelled and everything going on, we ordered our VEX VRC kit, field, and some other pieces early so that we are ready to start the season when the new game comes out. We can't wait to get together as a team and unbox the huge boxes that arrived at Amanda's house, and put our field together. We are so excited to move on from the VEX IQ plastic pieces and start building robots with metal. Now, we just gotta wait for the game reveal on April 25!
Social distancing and COVID-19 can't stop us from meeting and working on robotics! For the last few weeks, and until we can meet in person as a team again, we have been having online meetings through Zoom to get ready for the 2020-2021 season, and these meetings are anything but boring! And we have to admit, we spend a good amount of those zoom calls just talking about random stuff, but hey, we can have fun, right? After all, we are best friends and haven't seen each other in quite a while :)
