Background
Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a plant native to Southeast Asia that contains naturally occurring bioactive compounds, including mitragynine, which interact with multiple physiological systems. Although kratom has traditionally been used for its stimulant- and opioid-like effects, its potential influence on exercise performance and physiological responses to physical activity remains largely unexplored.
Strategic Aims
Our prospective study will investigate the effects of a standardized oral dose of mitragynine on physical performance and physiological responses during a high-intensity, stair-based exercise protocol in healthy, physically active young adults. The findings may provide preliminary insight into how mitragynine influences exercise performance and physiological responses during strenuous physical activity.
Project Status
Study protocol development and funding preparations are currently underway.
