The wildcat strike, COVID-19 and where have you all been???

I know, right!?! The month of February was a wild one, and we are so grateful to our community who came out and came through to the strike line to work on bikes, help a friend (make a new one?), learn something new, and share hugs! Your patience, your joy, your excitement about bikes, this shit keeps us going! Thank you to our core members and volunteers who held it down under the harsh sun :)

Once the picket line moved away from the base, we decided we could best support our community by opening for brief hours each day in our shop up on campus. But then, after only two (not well publicized) days of being open, UCSC went to online classes in response to the growing COVID-19 pandemic, and over the rest of the quarter we had to figure out how best to be in community and keep everyone on fully functional two-wheeled wonders, while still staying safe.

Now almost 3 weeks into California's shelter-in-place, with many fam, core, volunteers not in Santa Cruz (we miss u all) and our most vulnerable communities in mind, we decided we will remain closed for the foreseeable future, until we know we can open safely.

But we haven't gone anywhere! We are still around and still love bikes and YOU. Spinning around the cosmos of our reality is the possibility of a podcast...? about bikes and things...? or a helpline for those trying to figure out how to use a butter knife to adjust the spring tension on their brake calipers? We'll be keeping ya updated on fb/insta as we figure out what goofy stuff we can come up with to put a smile on all our faces as take care of ourselves and loved ones.
