Anterior Teeth

Ant teeth are key to functional harmony or disharmony of the entire system (occlusion)

TWO REQUIREMENTS:

• CR

• Ant guidance in the front

• (This is required for non-interference of posterior teeth, posterior disclusion)

Posterior disclusion results in Coordinated muscle function

Posterior Interference results in Hyperactive muscle function

Best way is to mount in facebow, in CR

Condyles can rotate in CR on fixed axis

Diagnostic wax up

• Goal=anterior contact

• Do NOT always trust the wax-up bc cannot determine anterior guidance on articulator

Functional Matrix for Anterior contour

Zone of Functional Harmony:

• Red lines: (Facial, Fac-Incisial)

• 1) Centric relation

• 2) Upper half of labial surface

• 3) Lower end of labial surface

• 4) Incisal edge

• 5)ect.

1) Stable centric relation stops

• Load test

• Anterior deprogrammer

2) Upper Incisal Edge

• Labial contour

• Lip closure path

4) Determine Incisal Plane:

• Fit the lower smile line

• F-sounds

• Inner vermillion border

• Correct should be following:

  • Neutral zone, lip closure, phonetics, envelope of function

5) Ant guidance:

• Starts with long centric

• Have patient sit up straight

• ??Tap with red, and then position into centric using blue

• ?IF there are red marks in front of the black marks, then remove this

• Envelope of function/beginning of envelope of function

• THEN, protrusive and lateral excursion path

  • • If perio involved, group function is fine instead of canine
