About Me: Planning

In this lesson, students plan for the creation of an interactive collage in Scratch representing their personal interests while furthering their knowledge and understanding of the various blocks used in Scratch programming.

Objectives

Computer Science Objectives

Students will be introduced to the concepts of events (one thing causing another thing to happen) and parallelism (things happening at the same time) through performance
Students will explain what events are and how they work in Scratch
Students will explain what parallelism is and how it works in Scratch
Students will become familiar with a wider range of Scratch blocks
Students will be able to create an open-ended Scratch project that is an interactive digital representation of their personal interests

Language Objectives

Students will be able to tell their own story through events and experiences in an organized or sequential way.
Students will be able to retell events using words and phrase appropriate for the grade level.

Vocabulary

algorithm: A list of steps that you can follow to finish a task.
event: An action that causes something to happen.
initialization: Assign an initial (beginning) value to an object (or variable).
parallelism: Making things happen at the same time.
program: An algorithm that has been coded into something that can be run by a machine.
sequence: A particular order of steps or events.
