Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell of MCT's Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology had introduced Rural Development Internship in month of July 2019 with a view of harnessing the skills and resources available within the institution. The aim is to develop the rural areas through value based social awareness and implementing the technical solution to the mass problem. In its second edition more emphasis was put on domain of renewable energy, food processing and digitalization. Also, to boost the working skill of the interns and strengthened their motive to contribute to a prosperous nation.
On February 19, 2019, UBA Cell, RGIT had conducted a survey in 5 villages of Ratnagiri district, to get acquainted with day to day problems faced by the villagers and gain information about the infrastructural conditions prevailing in the village area. A total of 104 households were surveyed from the district. This visit also aimed to develop healthy interpersonal relationship with the villagers, so that they could openly discuss their problems with the student members, put forth their requirements and basic needs and entrust the team to take responsibility and implement ideas that would provide optimal solution. The problems identified through the survey include inadequate water supply, load shedding, poor mobile network connectivity, lack of medical facility, transportation and unemployment.
Completed the planning phase of the desired projects and started approaching funding agencies.
Rollback mechanism was created within the institution therefore delivering wider experience to the students.
Details of the project were presented to the villagers and discussed the importance of development in the villages.
Sparked the interest of the interns in making a valuable contribution to society.
Furthermore, intervention can be done in development of village through Bachat Gat, localities and various government initiatives.

Social internship was an initiative of CTARA, IITB and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, RGIT in association with Faizpur Municipal Council to involve students of all departments studying in different academic years, for exploring various opportunities in techno-social fields, that would enable them to connect and work with Rural India for their upliftment. CTARA is gearing itself to face the challenges posed by the changes incorporated, through research projects as well as new academic and training programs.
A proposal from CTARA IITB was accepted by UBA Cell, RGIT that led to a collaboration between both, for organizing an internship programme. Main focus of this internship was to collect the data of Faizpur town for an integrated project of water supply, sanitation, solid waste management and storm water drainage. CTARA over the years has developed relations with various Governmental Departments at the Centre and State; Industrial Houses, Non-governmental Organizations / Community based Organizations.
UBA Cell RGIT has established a strong relationship with the CTARA IIT, Bombay and its representatives.
Our students got an excellent opportunity to know the social behavior of people of Faizpur Town that helped during the survey of Jalgaon cluster.
Data collected by students will surely help Faizpur MNC to design Water supply, Sanitation, Waste water management and Store water drainage for at least next 25 years
This Internship helped students build better communication skills and learn social research methodologies.

Rural Development Internship was an initiative of UBA Cell, RGIT in association with AICTE to involve students of all departments studying in different academic years for exploring various opportunities in techno-social fields, to connect and work with Rural India for their upliftment. Rural Development means strategy to improve the economic and social life of the rural poor areas in the overall spectrum of development and growth. The key objective of RDI was to interact with the villagers regarding various issues faced by them on regular basis. A total of 24 students participated in Rural Development Internship in duration from June 10, 2019 to July 06, 2019.
RDI was the foundation of an idea that integrated rural development with academic growth of students. This internship covered three villages i.e. Mundhe Tarf Chiplun, Mundhe Tarf Savarda, Durgwadi Kh. where various campaigns and surveys were conducted.
On June 11, 2019, the team got an opportunity to visit the Samta Foundation, a trust that works solely towards the upliftment of the underprivileged class within the society and acts as an agent of change. In this visit, students got to interact with the people living in tribal areas of Palghar District.
The visit helped the team get acquainted with the problems faced by villagers in their day-to-day lives.
Through survey, members of the team understood the reasons behind migration of people from villages to cities, majorly because of lack of resources and facilities.
