TXHSWS State Wet Welding Championship 6/27/26 - The Ocean Corporation
The Texas High School Welding Series Educator Series is a statewide professional development initiative designed specifically for welding instructors, CTE teachers, and educational leaders who are committed to preparing students for success in the welding industry.
These educator-focused seminars are hosted throughout Texas in partnership with industry leaders, colleges, technical schools, manufacturers, employers, educational service centers, and local school districts. Each event is designed to help educators expand their technical knowledge, strengthen industry connections, and bring relevant, real-world applications back to their classrooms.
The welding industry continues to evolve, and successful programs require more than teaching welding skills alone. Today's educators must understand industry expectations, certification pathways, emerging technologies, workforce trends, safety practices, and career opportunities available to their students. The TXHSWS Educator Series provides opportunities for teachers to learn directly from industry professionals while collaborating with fellow educators from across the state.
The goal of the Educator Series is simple: help teachers become even more successful in the classroom.
By creating stronger partnerships between education and industry, we can better align classroom instruction with workforce expectations, increase opportunities for students, and ensure welding programs remain relevant, engaging, and impactful.
When educators grow, students benefit. Stronger teachers create stronger programs, stronger programs develop stronger welders, and stronger welders build a stronger workforce for Texas and beyond.
Whether you are a first-year instructor or a veteran educator, the TXHSWS Educator Series provides valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and continue developing the next generation of welding professionals.
Upcoming Events for Educators
The Ocean Corporation's Educator CDII Seminar has been rescheduled to September 26, 2026, creating an even greater opportunity for teachers, counselors, and administrators to attend.
This is more than a visit—it's a chance to step into the world of commercial diving and underwater welding firsthand. Explore the campus, experience the training environment, challenge yourself to try something new, and gain valuable insight into career opportunities available to today's students.
If you've never had the opportunity to weld underwater, now is your chance. It's one of those experiences you'll always be grateful you took part in and a day you'll never forget.

A Fail is a Fail: What Does the WPS Say?
Join the Texas High School Welding Series and Collin College for a unique three-day professional development experience designed specifically for welding educators. This workshop focuses on one of the most important—and often misunderstood—aspects of welding instruction: evaluating weld quality according to the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and applicable codes.
Participants will explore how industry standards, code requirements, and WPS documents are used to determine whether a weld passes or fails. Through classroom discussion, hands-on activities, and real-world examples, teachers will develop a stronger understanding of weld evaluation, discontinuities, visual inspection techniques, and the decision-making process used by welding inspectors and Certified Welding Inspectors (CWIs).
In addition to code interpretation and inspection fundamentals, the workshop will provide practical strategies for integrating these concepts into welding curriculum and daily classroom instruction. Educators will leave with tools, resources, and greater confidence in teaching students not only how to weld, but how to evaluate weld quality using industry expectations and standards.
Whether you are a new instructor or a seasoned educator, this workshop offers valuable insight into helping students understand a simple but critical principle: a fail is a fail—what matters is what the WPS says.
