Ideas like these have had a huge influence on the culture, lured many young people to the alt-right, and led to the strange alliance of tech billionaires with religious nationalists and authoritarian movements. Too many people are unaware of these ideas and how they are shaping our future.
Lighter topics include things like psychedelic therapy, positive psychology, digital minimalism, or restoring social capital. We don't just want to raise awareness about bad ideas, we also want to help people remain hopeful in a time of polycrisis, and develop the tools they need to flourish in a digital age.
The ForUUm is a program at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee that is open to everyone but designed to appeal to Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X'ers, that are often underrepresented in philosophical and spiritual discussion groups.
By having it after Sunday services, TVUUC members can easily stay for lunch and conversation, and it's also convenient for people who go to other Sunday morning services, or just like to sleep in! TVUUC also provides free childcare services for this event so parents can join without having to keep an eye on children or hire a sitter.
