With the remote location on the Antarctic frontier, the need for supplies and provisions becomes paramount for AtomiCo. employees, and guests alike. While shops are spread around the company site and nearby the various expedition staging areas, a couple of standalone stores provide additional necessities for before and after any venture into Tundraland.
Shop 1 - Southern Supply & Mercantile
Located near the entrance to the encampment, Southern Supply & Mercantile is the stop for goods and wares within Enderby Cove. Offering a variety of options, the shop has just about everything one could want. New AtomiCo. hires will find an assortment of company gear here, and visitors will be able to take home the same as well as additional souvenirs from their visit.
Housed within a nondescript structure compared to a few of the more elaborate ones around set aside by the company, the store is fairly inviting all the same. Previously used as storage by AtomiCo. in its early years, it became a formal business in 1959. Not too dissimilar from general stores of the old west, the condition of the exterior wooden shell of a frame shows the wear and tear of the environment with which it exists. A thick, hardened blanket of ice coats the eave protecting the front entrance to the store.
Inside, the store may look ramshackle, but the employees can tell you every nook, cranny, and item there is. If it can be found in Enderby Cove, it is here. If you are lucky enough, Walter (cast member in costume), one of Enderby’s first settlers long since retired from mining will be minding the shop and can regale you with a myriad of stories. Mugs, stuffed animals, t-shirts (for those brave enough), warm-weather attire, supposed alien artifacts and more dot the shelves. The store does offer a couple of land and park exclusive items only available on your visit to Tundraland.
Odds are on any visit to Tundraland you’ll hitch a ride on the local snowbus, otherwise known as Enderby Cove's Snowbus Tours, to briefly save yourself from the laborious work of making it around. To have your own snowbus fun at home, guests can pick up their very own snowbus set, similar to the currently offered monorail playset in Walt Disney World. With multiple battery operated snowbus cabs, a variety of curved and straight track pieces and two snow bridges, the set offers numerous configurations and hours of enjoyment. Additional add on pieces include Mount Whitley, the mineshaft, Southern Supply and additional ice and track pieces with which to accentuate your build.
For the Lego enthusiast, the store also provides a an exclusive Tundraland set, the Antarctic Explorer. This 375 piece set results in the build of one of AtomiCo’s unique mining tools used to explore the mountain environs of Enderby Cove. Two action figures and a block of ice complete the set, with larger ice sets sold separately.
Shop 2 - Tundra Treats
Guests exploring Enderby Cove within Tundraland will surely work up an appetite, and if they aren’t quite ready for a meal, Tundra Treats will be right up their alley. Utilizing a familiar looking polar like structure, the shop offers up a number of pre-packaged mouth-watering treats and snacks familiar to Disney park guests. The standard items are all here from popcorn, premium bars, to candy bars and chips with essentials like sodas and water available. Mixed in are various tundra themed items like Tundra Chips, Alien Candy Apples and AtomiCo branded snacks as well. The highlight of Tundra Treats though is the hot chocolate bar, located at the back of the shop.
Set against an ornate mahogany bar, that looks a bit out of place compared to the exterior, this fun spot offers up a great chance to try a variety of themed and flavored hot chocolate recipes to warm you up from the chill outside. While the standard chocolate is a tried-and-true favorite, those with more adventurous tastes will enjoy the numerous other flavors, syrups and toppings available at the bar. Specialty mugs are available to up your hot chocolate game and complete the experience. While the bar is a popular and in-demand spot for guests of all ages, a side takeout window is also available for those looking for a hot drink on the go.
