Facade + Surrounding Area
When visiting Tundraland, guests will come across the village of Enderby Cove, an artificially heated village plagued by the corporation AtomiCo Global, who make their name known as the geniuses behind the Enderby Cove Project. While the town is the main focal point of the land, the most stand-out point of the land isn’t the saloon or working houses, but is the massive glacial mountain that towers over the land, casting its vast shadow over the town.
This mountain, known in-universe as Mount Whitley, named for Lyle Whitley, the Director of Operations for Enderby Cove, is known to most guests as Tundra Mountain, home to Disney’s newest E-ticket attraction: Escape from Tundra Mountain. The main focuses of the mountain are the ice caverns and crags that make up the face of the mountain, allowing for a near-translucent view into the mountain (and the show building behind) that allows guests to see ride vehicles whipping along the tracks deep within the mountain’s core.
However, the first thing most guests notice about Tundra Mountain, before the big outdoor track section, before the icy terrain, possibly before they even realize they’re in a land, it the main unique staple of Tundraland that sets it apart from every other land in any theme park: the giant UFO frozen into the top of the mountain. This UFO has working lights that flicker and spin as the day goes on, creating a seemingly lifelike feeling to the vessel.
The mountain also has the aforementioned outdoor track segment, a dueling set of tracks where two different cars can operate at the same time, pursuing each other as they race through the mountain. This dueling attraction system plays into the storyline and ride through to create a wholly unique attraction experience.
Two Sides
Guests have the opportunity to choose between two different and unique versions of the attraction by choosing which entrance to come through. The attraction features the North Entrance which is accessible through Enderby Cove proper and is considered the “main entrance” to the attraction, i.e. the side that gets the longer of the two lines throughout the day. This entryway follows the storyline of the attraction from the point of view of AtomiCo. Global as you join a team of explorers seeking to go deep into the mountain on your first expedition to harvest the alien technology from inside.
Meanwhile, the secondary entrance is near Expedition: Down in the Old Industrial District where a resistance presence has been established. This track follows the storyline of a group of resistance volunteers who are trekking into the mountains to intercept the AtomiCo squads and stop them from exploiting the alien technology that lies within.
These two tracks follow unique stories as we’ll see in the ride-through segments, making both of them must-ride experiences for guests seeking the full Disneyland experience, or just those wanting to experience the full story that Tundraland has to offer.
