Dr. Tuhin Kumar Mandal is a distinguished Chief Scientist at the CSIR National Physical Laboratory and a Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). With extensive expertise in physics and advanced research methodologies, he leads innovative projects, mentors emerging scientists, and contributes to cutting-edge discoveries in the field of physical sciences. His work is widely recognised through numerous publications and citations in prestigious journals.
Dr. Mandal's research encompasses atmospheric chemistry, air quality monitoring, aerosol–trace gas interactions, source apportionment, and climate–pollution linkages. He has led and contributed to over 20 national and international research projects funded by agencies such as DST, MoES, MoEF&CC, ISRO, CSIR, and UKRI. Notably, he is the Principal Investigator of the South Asian Nitrogen Hub (SANH) project from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH).
He has published more than 180 research articles in SCI-indexed journals, authored several book chapters, and holds an h-index of 46 with over 6657 citations. Dr. Mandal has supervised 14 Ph.D. scholars and mentored numerous M.Sc . and M.Tech. students. He is a recipient of the prestigious BOYSCAST Fellowship (DST, Govt. of India) and the START Young Scientist Award (USA). He is also a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and serves on the Advisory Editorial Board of Environmental Science: Atmosphere, Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.
Dr. Mandal’s work continues to contribute significantly to understanding air pollution dynamics and its impact on regional climate and public health, especially across the Indo-Gangetic Plain and Himalayan regions.
