The Vehicle Policy sets clear guidelines for the use and operation of department vehicles. It ensures that all vehicles are utilized effectively, safely, and in compliance with departmental standards. By following this policy, we maintain operational efficiency, promote safety, and ensure that all vehicles are available when needed.
Department vehicles are essential for daily operations, including routine patrols, special assignments, and emergency responses. All personnel are expected to adhere to the following key guidelines:
Vehicle Use Guidelines
Authorized Use: Vehicles are to be used solely for department-related activities. Unauthorized use for personal or non-official purposes is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.
Proper Vehicle Assignment: Vehicles should be selected based on the task at hand. Routine patrol units should be used for standard operations, while specialized vehicles should be reserved for specific assignments or emergency situations.
Driving Behavior: Excessive speeding, reckless driving, or unnecessary vehicle damage is prohibited. All actions should reflect professionalism and respect for department equipment and safety.
Driver Conduct
Safe Driving: Drivers must operate department vehicles with caution, adhering to traffic laws and prioritizing the safety of themselves, other officers, and the public.
Emergency Operations: During emergency responses, officers must follow procedures that ensure the timely and safe execution of their duties while maintaining operational efficiency. Use of sirens and lights should be done as required by the situation.
Accident Protocol: In the event of a vehicle accident, drivers are required to follow the proper reporting procedures, document the incident, and cooperate fully with investigations and any follow-up actions.
