Off to National Bowls Championships at Royal Leamington Spa on Monday 28th August, in a bad state of nervous anxiousness. He was feeling a bit better when he took on Matt Flatman, of Norfolk, at 9.30am on Tues 29th August. In his first round, on a tricky outside rink, playing very well, he won 16 – 10 on the 19th end, having always been at least 3 shots ahead from the second end.

The next match was at 12 noon, again on a very tricky outside rink. Not finding his length very well, he was soon 11 -1 down. He made a bit of a fight back over the next few ends, but his opponent David Gedney (Spalding Town, Lincs), ran out the winner on the 19th end 16 shots to 9.
