T582 Advancement and Activity Policies
To provide clarity on advancement, T582 has developed the following policies:
For all ranks: Advancement Policy for Sign-Offs
For Star, Life, and Eagle rank requirements:
Activity Policy: Developed by the scouts on the PLC, this defines what it means to be an active scout, for Star, Life, and Eagle rank requirements
To advance, scouts must also be in good standing, as defined by the following policies:
The first rank on the Trail to First Class, scouts learn about the most basic skills, how troops and patrols work, and they learn about scout spirit. To complete the rank, they must have a Scoutmaster's conference, which is a discussion with your Scout Master or ASM on your experience and future in the Troop. Click Here for the full list of requirements.
The second rank on the Trail to First Class, Tenderfoot scouts learn more about the nature around them, the use of tools, and basic cooking and personal fitness. To complete this rank, scouts must first have a Scoutmaster's conference (see Scout Rank), as well as a Board of Review, which is when the scout goes in front of a Board (3-6 parents) and discusses the scout's experience and determine whether they have completed the requirements for the Rank. Click Here for the full list of requirements.
For the Second Class rank, scout's must demonstrate a higher level of knowledge on first aid, safety, outdoor identification, personal fitness, and scout spirit. Scouts are also introduced to planning and keeping track of their expenses, guiding them to leadership. To complete this rank, scouts must complete a Scoutmaster's conference (see Scout Rank), and lastly a Board of Review (see Tenderfoot Rank). Click Here for the full list of requirements.
First Class is a huge milestone for scouts, widely known as when scouts graduate to being 'senior scouts'. First Class scouts must demonstrate all the skills mentioned thus far, they must show experience in scouting and management, as well as take leadership roles on outings. To complete this rank, scout's must complete a Scoutmaster's conference (see Scout Rank), and a Board of Review (see Tenderfoot Rank). Click Here for a full list of requirements.
Each rank has a set of requirements that must be completed in order to earn the rank, as seen above. To earn any requirements, follow these basic steps:
1 - Read the requirements you would like to sign off, and make sure that you are prepared. Know any information you need to know, and bring any equipment or resources you need to show.
2 - Find a First Class (or above) scout or ASM, and ask if you may work on the requirement(s) with them. If you still need to learn, you may find an instructor or First Class Scout and ask them to teach you first.
3 - Complete the requirement as described without assistance from others.
Once you have completed all the requirements for a rank, you may speak to an ASM about having a Scoutmaster's conference. Once your Scoutmaster's conference is completed, you may organize a Board of Review, which you can find more information about on the Instruction and Resources page.
