Here are our troop's activities from June 2022: 

• June 13: We worked on fitness and exercise at Joint Forces Training Base. 

• June 26 - July 2: We went to Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island. The Scouts earned merit badges, went boating, did shooting sports, snorkeled, hiked, and so much more during the incredible week! 

Here are our troop's activities from June 2022:

March/April 2022 Activities:

• Oden G.'s Eagle Court of Honor was celebrated on March 25th. Congratulations Oden and good luck in your bright future! 

• On April 3rd, we served pancakes and sausage at Hope United Methodist Church and helped clear out their attic. 

• Miles Eaton began his Eagle project on April 25th. 

• From April 29th to May 1st, we participated in the Goldenwest District Camporee at Firestone!

May 2022 Activities:

• On May 9th, Miles E.'s completed his Eagle Scout project! 

• From May 21-22, we camped at Whitewater Preserve and hiked in Morongo Canyon. We also did conservation service at Whitewater, where we removed invasive species, watered native plant seedlings, and picked up microtrash. 

• We began the Family Life merit badge on May 24th. 

February 2022 Activities

• February 1st was Lunar New Year and celebrated by many Asian cultures. The first Chinese-American Scout troop in the United States was Troop Three of San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1914 and remains active to this day! 

• February 7th - We celebrated our first Court of Honor of the year. 

• February 19th - We went birdwatching in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands to fulfill requirements of the Bird Study Merit Badge. 

• February 26th - Scouts practiced their orienteering skills at El Dorado Park. 

January 2022 Activities

• On January 2nd, we went on a 10-mile hike to Sitton Peak 

• Chandler L.'s held the first day of his Eagle Project on January 15th, constructing a shed for Grace Christian school. We wish him luck with his Eagle! 

• January 15th was also Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. MLK was a 20th century Civil Rights activist. He was a Boy Scout from 11-13 years of age in Troop 151 of Atlanta, Georgia, meeting at Ebenezer Baptist Church. 

November and December 2021 Activities

• On November 14th, we held a flag ceremony at St. Isidore's church in honor of Veteran's Day. 

• We tasted freeze dried meals for the cooking merit badge on December 7th. 

• The troop's White Elephant gift exchange took place on December 13th. 

• We had a great year of scouting in 2021, and we look forward to the many adventures to come in 2022! 

October 2021 Activities

• From October 8th to October 10th, Troop 658 camped at Oso Lake for the Goldenwest District Camporall. During this event, our Scouts taught multiple knots to Webelos scouts.

• From October 23rd-24th, we camped at the OCBSA soccer field in the Irvine Great Park, and got to watch a soccer game! 

• At our troop meeting on Monday, October 25th, Scouts carved pumpkins for Halloween. 

• We also celebrated Georgelynn Seligman's, a long time member of Troop 658, birthday this month. Happy Birthday! 

September 2021 Activities

• On September 11th, we took part in a 9/11 memorial color guard at Little Cottonwood Park. On this day in 2001, four aircraft were hijacked by terrorists. Two were crashed into the Twin Towers in New York, one was crashed into the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field. The lives of those lost will never be forgotten. 

• On September 27th, we held troop leadership elections. Congratulations to those taking new positions and thank you to those ending terms on their positions! In addition, congratulations to the new SPL Chandler L. and ASPL Matthew Y., and to Mr. Barrientos on officially becoming the new Scoutmaster! 

August 2021 Activities

• August 6-8: We went on a camping trip at Ronald W. Casper's Wilderness Park. We went on a 5-mile hike and explored the park.

• August 20-22: We went on another camping trip, this time at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. We swam in the base's Olympic-sized pool and toured a museum on site.

• August 30 was our Court of Honor at Kiwanisland. Scouts received their merit badges, ranks, and award patches. Thank you to Connor R. and Finn H. for being our Masters of Ceremonies!

June & July 2021 Activities

• June 21st: Troop 658 scouts practiced their fire-building skills at the Joint Forces Training Base.

• June 28th: Joseph C. delivered military care packages from his Eagle Scout Project to Words of Comfort, Hope, and Promise in Laguna Niguel. Congratulations!

• July 12th: The Troop participated in a Red Rope Challenge at Rush Park

• July 18th-24th: Troop 658 went to Summer Camp at Camp Tahquitz! Scouts earned merit badges, participated in fun activities, and the Troop won overall at the Water Carnival!

May 2021 Activities

•  At the beginning of the month, we collected toys and books to donate to the Long Beach Convention Center shelter for unaccompanied minor children.

• On May 7th, we served ice cream during the Pack 611 Ice Cream Social at Grace Christian School.

• An additional service project was helping with setup and greeting visitors at the Rossmoor Women's Club Garden Tour on May 16th.

• From May 21 to the 22nd, we camped at KiwanisLand.

• On May 30th, we welcomed two new scouts, Lucas Y. and Alon E. to Troop 658. Welcome!

April 2021 Activities

• We did a Firem’n Chit course at Rush Park on April 11th.

• On April 17th, we prepared for Camporee by practicing tent setup and orienteering.

• Then, on the 24th, our troop attended Camporee at Oso Lake Scout Camp as the Mighty Phoenix and Dark Wolves patrols. The Mighty Phoenix won third place in Navigation, and the Dark Wolves tied for third in Iron Chef and won first in Scout Trivia!

• Finally, on the 26th, we restarted in-person meetings at the Joint Forces Training Base.

March 2021 Activities

On Sunday, March 7th, our troop went on a 6-mile hike in Irvine Regional Park. There was great scenery throughout the trail and we had a great time there. The scouts ate either a packed trail lunch or cooked meals at the park.

Sunday, March 14th was the day scouts volunteered at the Expertec Automotive Beach Cleanup at Bolsa Chica Beach.

On Saturday, March 27th, we went kayaking at Alamitos Bay in Long Beach

Seven new scouts bridged over to our troop on Sunday, March 28th. Welcome Luke L., Sean T., Ian C., Finh H., Tyler W., Noah A., and Christopher T. to Troop 658!
