In August of 2023, I became a Digital Media Marketing Intern for FR8 Clothing. FR8 is a clothing recycling start-up in the Minnesota Twin Cities area that offers a unique used clothing pick-up service that redistributes our customers' donated textiles to local fashion designers, artists, and charities. As a Digital Media Marketing Intern, I worked on a variety of collaborations, managed 3 social media accounts, developed a monthly newsletter, and more!
Social Media was a major piece of FR8's marketing efforts. With our target consumer demographics in mind, we chose to use Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook to promote our mission. To maximize our Social Media Marketing efforts, I identified an objective and a set of goals for each platform every fall, spring, and summer.
This past fall, for example, our objective for our Instagram platform was to raise brand awareness. To reach this objective, we set several goals to be completed by the end of December, such as increasing our follower count by 6%. In addition, I created a posting schedule that would align the post's content with the day of the week to promote a consistent flow of content. Every Monday we shared a motivational quote related to sustainability. Our goal for Motivation Mondays was to reach an average of 186 impressions. Every Tuesday we would post either an upcycling tutorial or a shoutout to other companies working towards the goal of reducing textile waste. Our goal for Tutorial Tuesdays was to reach an average of 279 impressions, and our goal for Sustainability Tuesdays was to reach an average of 132 impressions. Every Friday we'd share updates or announcements about FR8's mission. For FR8 Fridays, we aimed to reach an average of 202 impressions. Lastly, every Saturday we would highlight an individual who contributed to FR8's success. Our goal for Spotlight Saturdays was to reach an average of 204 impressions.
On December 26th we reviewed our fall goals. We found that we increased our follower account by 10.5%, gaining 132 new followers. Motivational Mondays reached an average of 225 impressions, Tutorial Tuesdays had an average of 356 impressions, and Sustainability Tuesdays reached an average of 245 impressions. FR8 Fridays reached an average of 424 impressions, and Spotlight Saturdays reached an average of 346 impressions.
To keep our customers engaged in our mission, I developed a monthly newsletter. On our website and social media links, followers can subscribe to the monthly newsletter which may include updates on the organization's developments, where their clothes have been donated that month, press highlights, or current events in the world of sustainable fashion.
The FR8 newsletter also provides us an additional way to measure consumer engagement. Since the launch of our first newsletter in November of 2023, we have gained 50 subscriptions. As of January 2024, our goal is to gain 30 new subscribers by May 1st, 2024.
In addition to digital media marketing, I had the opportunity to design merch for FR8 Clothing. Our merch gives our followers an alternative option to show support for our mission.
I have organized a photo shoot for the merch this upcoming February. We plan to use the images for social media content and other marketing efforts.
