Agenda Day 5
Friday – October 7, 2022
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (EDT)
Innovative Environmental Practices
Partnerships, Replication & Financing
Seed Banks, Nursery Development, Innovative Sustainable Farming & Financing through Climate Sequestration
Regional seed banks on a small-scale help support nursery development for indigenous plants, and on a big scale to facilitate resilient reforestation and develop solutions to address climate change. Speakers will engage in a three-part discussion on: 1) innovative practices in seed bank development and introduce tools, training and technology including methods of containerized, solar-powered seed banks to meet a diversity of needs in the Caribbean region; 2) showcase local initiatives that are working across the region to develop seed banks and nurseries; and 3) share research on climate financing through carbon sequestration.
Introduce National, Regional & International sustainable initiatives for replication and partnerships purposes.
International organizations will share from Honolulu and Guatemala tree planting techniques and on how to scale carbon capture from seed to forest with climate finance research partners.
Caribbean local initiatives are making a difference in seed bank and nursery development and will share successes and challenges.
Suriname sustainable forestry management initiatives will be shared for regional replication
Grassroots sustainable farming initiatives for supporting farmers have emerged in the region and speakers will share their innovative techniques and methods to sequester or store carbon.
