The Louisiana APT program was established in 1993 and has been managed by the Louisiana Transportation Research Center. The program is hosted by the Pavement Research Facility located in Port Allen, LA, across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge. The APT loading device used is the Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) machine, similar in features to the two ALF machines in operation at the FHWA's Turner Fairbanks Highway Research Center. More than 20 pavement sections have been tested in four research projects. Topics of the APT research projects include: the comparison of the performance of conventional and innovative base course materials for flexible pavements, performance evaluation of crumb rubber asphalt concrete and use of RAP as base course material.
