The project Stories Behind Traditions was started in December 2017 by Dragana Videnov, an English language teacher, and her Romanian colleague she met on the Erasmus+ course in Portugal. Other project members come from Greece, Poland, Portugal, Turkey and Ukraine.
The aim of the project for 8 to 14-year-olds was to share information about our countries, hometowns, schools, culture and traditions.
The use of English, with a real communicative purpose, encouraged our students to learn English with more enthusiasm.
Other aims were:
- to show the usefulness and importance of knowing the English language as a way to communicate with other European countries,
- to make friends from different countries,
- to develop cooperation,
- to share the differences and similarities between their traditions and customs,
- to improve English skills while using new technologies and developing ICT skills,
- to make learning more attractive and innovative.
- to enhance language skills.
The expected result of this project was to increase the pupils' awareness towards the differences and similarities of European cultures.
Through this project, the pupils learned such values as the respect of other cultures and tolerance.
The pupils gained self-confidence and improved their English and ICT skills while learning together with their European friends.
In August 2018, the project received the national Quality Label: This is a good quality project. Students were active and contributed to the project implementation, gained knowledge of foreign traditions and improved knowledge of their own tradition, learned to collaborate with foreign students and to use digital tools for development of multimedia content.
