Who wrote the book?

Before Paul wrote this letter to the Christians in Colossae, he had never been to their city (Colossians 2:1). This helps explain the personal greetings he included at the end of the letter, a practice he usually reserved for letters to churches he had not visited (for example, Romans). 

In AD 60–61, during his first imprisonment in Rome, Paul penned this letter to the Colossian church after he had received a report that they were struggling with a christological heresy. The report came from Epaphras, likely the leader of the church at Colossae and a convert of Paul’s from his more than two-year ministry in Ephesus 

The church at Colossae was under attack from false teachers who were teaching that Jesus was not actually God. Though Paul had never been to the church itself, he addressed these issues head-on. The nature of Jesus Christ as Creator and Redeemer was non-negotiable, so Paul wrote to them that he might bring his wisdom to bear on this difficult and trying situation in the church. 

In this book, the apostle Paul described Jesus with some of the loftiest language in all the New Testament, focusing on Christ’s preeminence and sufficiency in all things. Paul presented Christ as the center of the universe, not only as the active Creator but also as the recipient of creation—in His taking on of human flesh.

புத்தகத்தை எழுதியவர் யார்?

பவுல் கொலோசேயிலுள்ள கிறிஸ்தவர்களுக்கு இந்த கடிதத்தை எழுதுவதற்கு முன்பு, அவர் ஒருபோதும் அவர்களுடைய நகரத்திற்கு வந்ததில்லை (கொலோசெயர் 2: 1). கடிதத்தின் முடிவில் அவர் சேர்த்த தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்த்துக்களை விளக்க இது உதவுகிறது, அவர் வழக்கமாக அவர் பார்வையிடாத சபைகளுக்கான கடிதங்களுக்காக ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு நடைமுறை (எடுத்துக்காட்டாக, ரோமானியர்கள்).

கி.பி 60-61 இல், ரோமில் தனது முதல் சிறைவாசத்தின் போது, பவுல் கொலோசிய சபைக்கு இந்த கடிதத்தை எழுதினார், அவர்கள் ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவ மதங்களுக்கு எதிரான கொள்கையுடன் போராடுகிறார்கள் என்று ஒரு அறிக்கை கிடைத்தது. இந்த அறிக்கை கொலோபா தேவாலயத்தின் தலைவரான எபாப்ராஸிடமிருந்து வந்தது, எபேசுவில் இரண்டு வருடம் பவுல் ஊழியம் செய்தபோது இவன் இயேசுவை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டவன். 

கொலோசேயில் உள்ள சபை, இயேசு உண்மையில் தேவன் இல்லை என்று கற்பித்த தவறான ஆசிரியர்களிடமிருந்து தாக்குதலுக்கு உள்ளானது. பவுல் இந்த சபைக்கு வந்திராதபோதும் இந்த விஷயத்தை நேருக்கு நேர் சந்தித்தார். இயேசு சிருஷ்டிகராகவும் மீட்பராகவும் இருக்கிறார் என்பதை மறுக்க இயலாது. ஆகவே மிகுந்த சங்கடங்களுக்குள்ளே சென்று கொண்டிருக்கும் இச்சபைக்கு பவுல் தன் ஆலோசனையைத் தருகிறார்.

இந்த புத்தகத்தில், அப்போஸ்தலன் பவுல் இயேசுவை மிகவும் உயர்ந்த ஸ்நானத்தில் வைக்கிறார்; எல்லாவற்றிலும் இயேசுவே போதுமானவர் என்றும் சொல்கிறார். இப்பிரபஞ்சத்தின் மையமாக இயேசுவை முன்வைத்த பவுல் இயேசு மனித சாயலாக வந்ததின் மூலம் அவருக்கும் மனித குலத்துக்கும் பாலமாக அவர் இருப்பதை தெரிவிக்கிறார்.
