Author, Date, and Recipients John the son of Zebedee probably wrote his three NT letters no later than the 90s A.D. He wrote from Ephesus (in present-day western Turkey), perhaps to churches like those mentioned in Revelation  2:8–3:22. John also wrote the Fourth Gospel (John) and the book of Revelation.The epistle of 1-3 John, by the witness of the internal evidence and comparison with the Gospel of John, was manifestly written by the Apostle John. It is a family letter from the father to his “little children” who are in the world. The sin of a Christian is treated as a child’s offense against his father, and is dealt with as a family matter.
