Read-a-thon starts Thursday September 1, 2022 and ends September 30th, 2022 for the School Year 2022/2023.
Thomas Kelly Elementary PTA will host the second annual Read-a-thon this year. Read-a-thons get your reader excited about reading. Parents, grandparents, friends and family can encourage your child to read daily all month long. About a week before our Read-a-thon starts, we will send home a paper with instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. If you didn't get it, simply activate your reader’s account at https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/jkSKVl/1 . Be prepared with:
During the event dates, login and record your reader's daily reading minutes in the Read-a-thon portal at https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/login/ .
The Sacramento Public Library provides easy no cost access to age appropriate reading materials for all San Juan Unified School District's students. To access your child's pre-existing SJUSD/Sacramento Public Library account throughout the year, simply use the SJUSD Student ID* (ex: Sj123456) located on your child's Student ID card and go to:
Remember, all reading minutes count! Here's some fun ideas to encourage more daily reading minutes:
Set up virtual reading sessions with a grandparent over Zoom or Facebook for specific night(s) of the week.
Take your child to the library and let them pick.
You read; I read! Trade off reading out loud each night between siblings or adults.
On Friday September 30th, 2022, we will host a "Camp Out" themed family night on campus 7:30pm to 9:30pm to celebrate literacy. Bring the whole family with chairs or blankets. Please watch our Facebook Event Page for updates.
We've chosen this Read-a-thon because it doesn't take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills. We hope EVERYONE participates.
Please contact us if you have questions. Thanks so much,
Thomas Kelly PTA
*The SJUSD Student ID (ex: Sj123456) is located on your child's student ID card, viewable in the parent portal, or simply ask your child's teacher or the school office staff for help to locate the number. It will start with Sj + six digits.
