Week 7 Power Rankings
League,
Each week just gets crazier and crazier this year in the Da Station League. Indicative of the actual NFL, the parity that exists is astounding. There just aren’t any real powerhouses thus far. I will explain that and so much more below. So esketit started.
(+3) Subway Killers [Irrational Savages](4-3). It doesn’t get more dominant than the two back to back emphatic wins by the reigning Sacko from Hyundai. It would be a crime to not have my father hold this number one spot especially when the rest of the upper tier of teams severely underperforming this past week. So what was my father's secret? The first real appearance of Amari Cooper. After having three under 1 point games this season, Amari exploded for 33 (210 and 2 TD's). After watching that game he could have easily had maybe 40 points total; he was still missing passes and looked shaky at times. As for the rest of the squad that handed Nick his seventh loss in a row, Ingram, Bell, and Hill all had over 17 points. Big Ben, a respectable 16.7 and Gronk 5.1. It was an all out attack from the Sack, a misnomer that may die next week with another big win like this.
(-1) The Redeem Team (5-2). Still sitting at the top of the league, it is hard to knock Dave off his pedestal….yet. He had one bad week, and in this league we are all figuring out that that just happens sometimes. There's only been one team (Team Buddy) that hasn’t had a sub 75 point week, meaning, a week like this was just bound to happen for Dave. That said, there still should be some concern for Dave's teams in the WR and TE categories. With only two days left before the deadline, watch for Dave to trade some of his producing assets away for another superstar WR to complement AB. I still think Dave will wind up making the playoffs. This week against Mike’s Bye-heavy team is paramount for Dave’s success going forward. It features an important tie breakers that will come into play at the end of the year.
(-1) Team Buddy (4-3). I handed Eric his 3rd loss of the season but with what I alluded to in the last analysis, he has been consistent throughout. He just got really REALLY unlucky. He had his lowest scoring week with 78.3. Cam, against a bears D/ST that is really isn't that good, got held to 7.4 points with 3 turnovers. This then in turn held Kelvin Benjamin back and screwed up Eric's week as a whole. I think Hunt and Howard are still solid fantasy performers and their scores this past week do not reflect their fantasy value. Engram, who was Eric leading positional scorer, really showed what being a number one option can do on a bad Giants team. Eric plays my father next week in a showdown that could have a serious divisional importance heading into the second half of the year. The only problem is that Eric is playing a red hot team that has no guys on Bye. Look for Eric to end up the strongest 4-4 in the league.
(+2) The 1999 NFC Championship Team (4-3). Every week I do this dance with Justin, unsure if he has a good or bad team. It seems that whichever I choose, he proves me wrong. So far this year, he's had two 60 point games, two 110 point games, and three 90 point games. All over the place. I think that his team is definitely well put together. McCoy, Hyde, Dez, Crabtree, Cooks, and Legetron are all solid starts week in and week out. Whether they disappoint Justin or explode is usually a 50/50 chance. With Hyde and Cooks, this is especially true. But the reason I have Justin 4th on this list is that I think he has finally found some stability with Alex Smith at the helm. The number one fantasy QB is refusing to be forgotten and with every game over 15, four over 25, he has become just what Justin needs to win going forward. Next week he goes up against a demoralized GOAT team. We'll see if Gibby can start to make that turn toward the playoffs and control his less than stellar division he now is in a tie for the lead.
(0) Certified G (4-3). Three weeks in a row now Big Dave has sat here in this 5 position. Not good enough to be in the top tier, but certainly not good enough to be apart of the bottom half. His team simply won on the shoulders of a bad performance by his son. They did absolutely nothing spectacular. However, that in a sense, shows strength, to win games in which you should normally lose. Gordon played DEN, AJ played PIT. Two tough matchups. Once those guys bounce back, Big Dave 100% has the firepower to be right there with the strongest in the league. He’s off 3 straight wins, and a win against the League punching bag could have him sitting atop the best division.
(+2) Seal Team Ricks (4-3). In a game that no one thought Dan could win, he put up 103.4 and won by over 20 points. Dak, who I mentioned before on Dan’s team, had 30 on the SF D/ST and Jordan Reed has 2 TD’s on Monday night. It was a sight to see the pirate plunder yet another win from the opposing division. This victory actually put himself in first place in his division and sent Joe to Davy Jones’ Locker (last place in his respective division). I think with the power of Baldwin, Reed, and Prescott Dan could win another 3-4 games and could shake up the league as a whole. But like I said last week, he still has a slim shot at the playoffs in my opinion.
(-4) The Real James White (3-4). This team suffered a lot this past week. At one point I think he had like 20 going into Sunday night. Let it be known Fournette, didn’t play, Mike perennial workhorse on his team. But the same reason Mike was three last week is the same reason he’s seven this week: Adrian Peterson. AP came back down to earth and with unknowns at the QB position we may see teams stack the box against him. Mike’s team’s value is predicated on how well his RB’s perform and with only one viable option there, he’s certainly in trouble. I might be wrong, maybe Kelley or Peterson can have strong roles going forward. But until then Mike is going to have to rely on the hot hand of Nelson Agholor to get him those important FLEX points.
(-1) The GOAT Team (3-4). At the bottom of his division, Joe has now dropped two games in a row. The absence of Rodgers is proving to be quite costly and no one on Joe’s team is really stepping up. Blount 2.9, Anderson 6.1, and Murray 7.6. Just not what Joe needs right now. He needs to have all his pieces firing on all cylinders every week if he honestly wants a chance this year. We’re heading into the second half of the season which is filled with divisional games. Being at the bottom of the better division, with only a QB carousel to lead his team each week puts him at an incredible disadvantage. Hopkins is back next week so maybe that can put a jolt back into the GOAT team, but probably it won’t be enough against Justin.
(0) Trimarcos From Tropoja (4-3). It’s always better to be lucky in fantasy than to actually be good. And boy did I get lucky. Heading into Monday Night I was down 23.9 points to Eric with only Cousins left to play. What happened? He got exactly 23.9 edging me over eric by the dreaded 0.1. But this list is not about wins and losses per say. It is about strength. And my team definitely lacks strength. Of the teams with wins, I find myself with a ragtag group of starters with low floors and mediocre ceilings week to week. I have to just hope this lucky streak that I’m flying on pushes me into first place in a very winnable division.
(0) Brady and the Champ (0-7). Remember I was saying how I would rather have luck than skill? Well this team right here has all the skill in the world, not an ounce of luck. And I said I refuse to move Nick out of 10th until he wins, so here he stays. With the highest points against in the league, Nick has not caught a break. It seems that he just happens to play the highest scoring team every time his team shows up. Still... Nick only sits 5th in points for. Definitely not outstanding. So the whispers of a fixed schedule, are completely asinine and would only come from someone so bitter, so pissed off, that their only resort would to use childish excuses. Nick being 0-7, having Zeke (his leading RB scorer these days) on the cusp of suspension, and having a nonexistent receiving core officially puts him out of the playoff contention. The league has never fell to such depths have a past champion perform so poorly in one season. His team is good but he will never win a game this year until he takes responsibility for drafting as badly as he did. Maybe then we shall see the Phoenix rise from the ashes. And until then The Niz will continue to be my (skull crushing) finale each and every Power Rankings.
