Joanne Salzer recently completed her master's in the lab of Dr. Allen Place at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, looking at palytoxin production in zoanthids and their symbionts. Her research interests stem from a fascination with microbe-host interactions in aquatic ecosystems. Currently, Joanne is working as lab manager and project coordinator for a grant with the Port of Baltimore to monitor toxic algae in dredge material.
