The Pawn Project is honored to announce David as our February Special Guest!
David serves as president of the nonprofit organization through which The Pawn Project operates. He is an accomplished chess player, gifted chess coach, educator, FAA air traffic controller, and former Marine — but above all, he is a mentor. The youth founder of The Pawn Project, Truett, has been fortunate to benefit from David’s patient, steady, and encouraging mentorship, which not only enriched his chess journey but also helped him believe in himself, build confidence, and realize his potential to create The Pawn Project. Truett has been deeply inspired by David’s passion for making chess accessible to everyone.
David embodies the mission of The Pawn Project through his commitment to leadership, education, and the transformative power of chess. He demonstrates how chess builds critical thinking, confidence, and problem-solving skills both on and off the board, while creating opportunities for players. His vision in the nonprofit structure supports the mission of The Pawn Project remaining free for every participant. We are thankful for David’s leadership, support, belief in youth potential, and tireless work behind the scenes. He is not just a coach — he is a multiplier of impact and a mentor of mentors.
