We are hosting a fundraiser at Chipotle on February 2nd! Please visit the "Support Us" tab to learn more and help to support our cause.
The Pawn Project was founded by 6th grader Truett of Loudoun County, VA, who dreamed of sharing his love of chess with local peers and growing alongside them in skill. Partnering with the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and the Loudoun Library system, he brought that dream to life. Today, Truett serves as Program Director and Lead Youth Coach.
Our mission is to help local youth grow into confident chess players while gaining life lessons the game teaches—patience, strategy, resilience, and good sportsmanship. Through The Pawn Project, beginner to intermediate players receive one-on-one coaching from skilled youth competitors, and all players have opportunities to sharpen their skills in over-the-board matches with peers. These experiences not only improve chess ability but also foster focus, perseverance, and lasting friendships.
