Have fun solving the puzzle of the month! It is White to move and win material. A new puzzle and the answer to this one will be published here on November 8th!
Difficulty 6/10
Puzzle designed by Truett, the Pawn Project creator.
The answer to last month's puzzle is the brilliant Nxf7!! Why?
If the black king takes the knight back (Kxf7), the white queen swoops in, taking the pawn with check (Qxe6+). The black king has one legal move, which is Kf8. Then the queen moves to f7 for checkmate. What else could black do?
There aren't really and other options for black after Nxf7. Since black cannot take and the queen and rook are being forked, the best move is to move the queen out of the way and lose the rook for the knight.
White wins material or checkmates black.
