Brief Summary

Theodora Issa, PhD, SFHEA, FAIM is a multi-Award winner.  Theodora is an Academic and an Author. Theodora comes to academia from the Financial World where she served as a High-Ranking Executive in an International Bank for several years.  In academia, Theodora has been a curriculum leader and a leader of a range of research groups. In addition to her academic work in Australia, Theodora was invited to design and facilitate a course under the title Sustainable Development Business and Ethical Strategies for the Master of International Business program in Europe (six runs) which was aimed at international audience representing 23 countries. Theodora is the author and co-author of several journal articles, reports, edited books, textbooks, books, case studies, conference papers, conference proceedings, book chapters and magazine articles. Theodora is a reviewer and Associate Editor for Journals and conference papers. Theodora’s major area of research focuses on ethical mindsets, spirituality, and aesthetics. Theodora has been appointed by the Vice Chancellor of Curtin University as the Academic Representative in the ‘System Change’ working group at the University level where she served between 2014 until the group has wrapped up in early 2017.  She is a volunteer at different institutions locally and internationally, for example, she is one of the Webmasters (since 1995) of her community's website and is one of the editors of the weekly bulletin since 1995 that is also available online. She is an active member at the World Council of Churches (WCC) on behalf of her church “the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and all the East”, she was a delegate for the 10th and 11th Assemblies of the WCC.  Theodora, and following her election as a member of the Central Committee during the 10th Assembly held in South Korea, also served a commissioner at the Education and Ecumenical Formation Commission, a member of the Permanent Committee for Consensus and Collaboration, and a member on the Central Committee.  Currently, Theodora is currently serving her second term as a member of the Central Committee (elected for the second term in September 2022 during the 11th Assembly held in Germany). In 2020/2021 has been invited to join The Advisory Board of the Ecumenical Centre for Pilgrims and Biblical Studies in the Holy Land.

Overview

September 2022, and during the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly Dr Theodora Issa was elected a member of the Central Committee of the WCC representing her Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and all the East

February 2020 Dr Theodora Issa SFHEA has been recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy through the Queensland University of Technology Academy of Learning and Teaching.

During the second meeting of the Central Committee (CC) of the World Council of Churches (WCC) that was held in Trondheim, Norway during the period 22nd - 28th June 2016, Dr Theodora Issa was elected a member of the Permanent Committee on Collaboration and Consensus (PCCC). 

During the first meeting of the Central Committee (CC) of the World Council of Churches (WCC) that was held in Geneva, Switzerland during the period 2nd - 8th July 2014, Dr Theodora Issa was elected a member of the Education and Ecumenical Formation Commission (EEF), the first meeting of which was held in Switzerland in February 2015 until 2022. During the sessions of the 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC) held in Busan, South Korea between the period 30th October - 8th November 2013, Dr Theodora Issa was elected a member of the Central Committee of the WCC, being the first female representative of her Church in the history of WCC. Theodora was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy in a graduation ceremony on 9th February 2010.  Theodora's PhD thesis (2009) 'Ethical mindsets, aesthetics and spirituality: a mixed-methods approach analysis of the Australian services sector' is available here. Theodora is currently conducting her post-doctoral research. Data has been collected from twelve countries, and manuscript is under preparation for publication with Springer.

In addition, Theodora collaborated with The Management Centre for Human Values (MCHV) of India, through networking established between herself, Professor Chatterjee of Curtin University and Professor Bhatta of MCHV.

Theodora has conducted some translations of historical and spiritual books (on voluntary basis):

Theodora has a sound commercial intuition backed by significant experience across a range of industries; such as banking, insurance, export and education.

Theodora worked as a volunteer with The Red Cross, World Vision, and Young Women Christian Association.  Currently a volunteer with her community (editor of the weekly bulletin which can be seen here , also one of the webmasters of the Church's website which can be seen here.

Theodora holds a professional work ethics, and has great interest in understanding of ethical mindsets not only in Australia, but globally.

Over the past years Theodora held senior banking, finance, research and training positions in a variety of industries including education, banking, insurance, trade and export, charitable organizations, and tertiary education in Australia and overseas (e.g. Europe). Currently Dr Theodora Issa SFHEA is recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy through the Queensland University of Technology Academy of Learning and Teaching.
