Project 1 was a group project which is a preparatory task that investigates the character of a place ( town or city) and architecture for place-making through the ‘Townscape Assessment (see Appendix 1) exercise. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the character, identity, and uniqueness of a town and urban region in order to identify opportunities for producing responsive architecture design within urban context and place-making led urban space in the given site. Thus, the project introduces students to the fundamentals of urban design by assessing the ‘content’ of the urban context within the proposed site.
After done collecting the data, we have to submit :
6-8 A1 panels in hard and soft copy (PDF) format - macro and micro site studies
Site Model 1:200
Urban intervention design report/ slides (1-5 pages)
Short video of urban intervention design proposal ( 1 min)
In project 2, we, student will need to design a learning center in Pudu within an urban context. The design of the building is to consist of appropriate architectural responses that address the aspects of the urban street context and user behavioral patterns as discerned ad analysed in the preliminary studies.
Apart from developing a narrative on architectural strategy in response to the relevant questions pertaining to local community and its urban context, the design should take into consideration a holistic application of structural, spatial, functional and environmental requirements to design an Learning center for the community. The design development of this project will include an introduction to the legislative restrictions that impact an architectural scheme, the integration of lighting and acoustic design, as well as the design exploration and detailing of the façade and building envelopes that is coherent with the architectural language of the overall design project. The design outcome has to exhibit strong integration in construction and theory, within the Studio, whilst concurrently integrating with the Module on Building Services.
We have to design a learning center that is :
1200m2 to 1300m2 total built-up area
including but not limited to:
1. Studios / Classes / Workshops / Lecture Rooms
2. Exhibition space (indoor / outdoor)
3. Mini-Library
4. Gathering area (indoor / outdoor)
5. Cafeteria
6. Souvenir Shop
7. Management Office with meeting rooms
Services and circulation (WC, Lift lobby, fire exits etc.): 30% from total area
Outdoor public area & plaza are not included in total built-up area.
We will then need to submit 4 to 6 A1 hard and soft copy that include all the requirements in the brief.
