Leadership

The Nest currently provides a home for Middletown Church of the Nazarene, a "Church-Type Mission" connected to the global Church of the Nazarene, where Ryan is an ordained minister, which also provides connection and accountability for every aspect of our ministry. Locally, we have an Executive Board that helps to guide and support the congregation and any other activities or ministries that may yet arise.  Learn a bit more about them below!

Jonathan Mills is a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene and serves the community through various roles at Newark Charter School.  He is a husband, and a dad, and has lived in a number of states - all of which were bigger than Delaware.  He has been known to frequent Starbucks, but doesn't drink coffee.

Josh Reitzes is a Business Control Analytics Manager, a husband, and a dad.  He roots for the Eagles, the Sixers. The Phillies, and is a Chelsea football club fan. At one point in his life, Josh was the public address announcer for Division II men's and women's basketball and led the UD Marching Band as drum major.  He is an endless supply of dad jokes.

Megan Reitzes is a Credit Quality Analyst, a wife, a mom, and has the true heart of a volunteer.  She would spend a month at the beach if permitted to do so, and has a preference for camouflage clothing and monograms.  Her nails are always flawless, and she has played nearly 2,000 games of Scrabble against her mother... in person.

Vicki Deschere is a daughter to two, and an auntie to many.  She is a Science teacher in the Appo school district, world traveler, and fur-mama to very snuggly cats.  She also keeps snakes, but we don't talk about that.

Ryan Scott is a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene, writer, husband, and dad.  He has lived in ten states, traveled to all fifty states, and can often be found in a state of contemplation.  He won't spend more than $20 on a pair of shoes.

Katelynn Scott is a school librarian in the Appo school district, wife, mom, and do-er of things.  She is quickly learning all kinds of around-the-house skills like how to re-grout, re-caulk, repair, and re-finish all kinds of things!

STAFF

Ryan Scott, Senior Pastor - You learned a little about Ryan above.  He has a history degree from Eastern Nazarene College and a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary.  He has served as associate pastor in Pennsville, NJ, as well as in various roles in different faith-based non-profits over the years.  Ryan is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and currently serves on the Board of Our Daily Bread, a soup kitchen right around the corner from The Nest; he also substitute teaches for the local school district and is involved with planning and running the annual Mid-Atlantic District Teen Camp for youth in grades 6-12.

David Shaw, Associate Pastor - David is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene with 40 years of experience in professional ministry.  He pastored many congregations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire before settling into life in Middletown.  He works as a paraeducator for the Appoqunimink School District and helps lead the congregation in Pastoral Care.

Lynn Shaw, Worship Coordinator - In addition to Lynn's full time job as a hospice chaplain, she's graciously agreed to use her decades of experience crafting and leading worship services to guide our corporate Refresh Worship.  Lynn is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and an accomplished musician.  She has served alongside her husband, David, in many pastoral assignments, as well as chaplaincy service in a wide variety of areas.
