Our front porch give-away bench with bags of produce for those in need!
A local high school student - Brody W. - completed his Eagle Scout project at The Nest in the Spring of 2021. He raised funds to build 7 raised garden beds and a compost bin to create a Community Garden. The garden was expanded again in Spring 2022 thanks to a grant from the New Castle County Urban Farmer and Gardener Mini-Grant program (trellis, walkways, irrigation system, rain barrels, and more). Hopefully soon to come (Winter 2022) is a partnership with Plastic Free Delaware to become a Community Composting Site - stay tuned!
The Scotts currently have three objectives for this garden:
(1) To provide fresh produce for Our Daily Bread here in Middletown.
(2) To provide fresh produce and recipes for those experiencing food insecurity right here in our neighborhood.
(2) To build community and environmental awareness through working together and maintaining the garden for all to enjoy.
During the growing season, the Scotts are always looking for help - perhaps from local high school students in Agriculture pathways, local green-thumbs, or people with just a few minutes to spare. We need community members to help plant, maintain, and harvest the garden. If you have interest in helping with this project, please reach out!
