Queue
The queue snakes its way through the lush forests of the land, into shrines and temples that tell the story of Kunlun Mountain and the legends of the deities and fantastic creatures that are told to inhabit it. We enter a structure alongside the river; a boathouse of sorts with maps of the mountain range across the walls. On the docks of the river we step onto our boat and our journey begins.
Beginning
Our journey begins as our boat floats along a river in a misty and mysterious valley. We’re surrounded by the sounds of the bamboo forests around us, creatures of all kinds yet unseen. The mist is so heavy it’s hard to see much besides the few sun (or moon) beams that break through the thick foliage. We turn a bend in the river and pass a shrine at the foot of the mountain where the locals leave offerings for the divine entities that call the mythic place home.
Reverse Waterfall
As we pass the shrine we discover something truly spectacular; a waterfall but in reverse. Our boat begins to angle upwards as the streams of water carry us towards the legendary peak of the mountain. We continue our ascent, we approach an opening in the rocks leading into a cave. Inside the massive rock walls drip and hum with a divine aura. Upon the ceiling of the cavern lights dance in patterns as a low whisper in foreign tongues echo around us. Reaching the top of the waterfall our boat returns to the flow of the rivers of the mountain.
Fantastical Flora and Fauna
The waters of the higher altitude weave between rock formations and lush gardens of fantastical plant life. The trees and other plants along these waters have grown into elaborate and ornate shapes with large bright leaves. Our river guides us into a rock cavern that houses magnificent trees that grow gems like pearls and jade as their fruit, the glittering stones sparkle and cover the walls of the cavern with rainbows of light. As we leave the cavern we float into a thick collection of trees that are filled with seemingly thousands of birds of every kind singing their sweet melodies as we pass by. Beyond the chorus of birds we float by a collection of wildlife that call these mysterious mountaintop forests home; tigers, deer, and other creatures native to this part of the world weave in and out of the dense plants along the water's edge.
Palace
As we splash into the drop the river carries us into a collection of beautiful manicured gardens filled with a diverse array of flowers and trees of every size and collections. Beautiful birds fill the trees and ornate sculptures and statues interrupt the collection of lush greenery. Foundations spray and cascade into the flow of the water of the river. As we continue the waters lead us into a majestic palace. Candles fill every corner of the massive room not occupied by treasures and works of art, all alive and moving with magic. We move towards the end of the room; a large opening with the sound of rushing water moving towards a steep drop.
Shamans & Yu Shi
The waterfall sends us deep into a cavern serving as a temple for the great shamans of the mountain. Their magic fills the chamber, glowing and manipulating the rocks, plants, and water that share the space. Our boat goes deeper into the cavern and interior waterfalls start to surround us. We approach Yu Shi, Lord of Rain who is legendary to live on the mountain. The deity is massive and stands before us, two snakes in his hands as his chants to bring rain to the mountain range. We begin to climb up a lift hill as the cave around us overflows with the rains of Yu Shi’s storm; the amount of water increases as we approach the peak.
Fall Back to Earth
The waters start to rage as we reach the top of the hill. Through the mist we can see all of The Middle Kingdom. Our boat levels off and then sends us plunging down a five-story drop back into the dense forests below. We fly past through rock formations and thick plants as we slow back down to the pace of the river. Taking us along the green banks of the river we pass a large waterfall with a shrine to Yu Shi, a reminder of our encounter with the deity. Our boat returns back to the station and we disembark off to more spectacular journeys in The Middle Kingdom.
