Backstory

In the 70’s and 80’s, nighttime life was at a high peak as fun music and style trends were put out to the world. Neon signs lit up the beautiful art deco buildings and made people feel very happy and energetic. Clubs were created in the 1970’s where people could just spend the night having fun with their friends. The fashion was amazing with bright colors, slick hair, and the extravagant accessories. Even some of the musicals we love today came from the 70’s and 80’s such as Grease and Les Miserables. You can tell that the people of this world loved these places since most of these experiences are still around today! This was all happening when Disney World and Disney Springs were being created and opened. This is why on March 22nd, 2025, The Lights District will open in Disney Springs for the 50th anniversary! This all new district will feature some of your favorite things from the 70’s and 80’s but with a fun and modern twist. It will have a huge theater, escape rooms, clothing stores, clubs and so much more when The Lights District opens.

Area Description (Day)

As guests park their car in the new Tangelo garage they will be thrilled to know that parking is an ease for The Lights District. After parking guests go down the elevators or stairs to the ground floor, and walk along a path with potted flower and plants through two small parking lots as the back of Cirque looms over the Lights District. Making a left guests will arrive into the Lights District and be embraced by the colors and sounds of the eighties. The fusion of art deco architecture, neon lighting, and a color scheme derived from Miami Vice create an area of nostalgia for guests to take in with their eyes, and plenty of places ready for social media pictures. Throughout the district the outdoor speakers are all tuned into DSN75, the local radio station housed within the Lights District hosted by local Disney Springs personality Clifford.

As guests continue past the karaoke club, Sing It, they enter Inspiration Plaza host to a brand new fountain. Within the fountain a large tower of water continuously flows as smaller towers rise and fall around it. Outdoor patios for the nearby restaurants allow guests to see other patrons dining on food they may want to try for themselves. The Museum of Inspiration stands tall within the plaza, and offers a break from the art deco designs inspired by Miami Beach with tile mosaics decorating parts of the building. Down an alleyway past the museum guests run into a small deli housing some of the best subs East of the Mississippi. While curious little vending machines offer guests the chance to buy Snapchat Spectacles to better show off their day in this totally tubular district

Continuing back onto the main paths of The Lights District guests run into the DSN75 radio station housing Clifford's, and adjacent to the station will be the abandoned DSN75 television studio where all out puttemonium has broken loose inside. An abandoned arcade sits nearby as the youth of the area has turned the area into an all out laser war zone run by some punk company Encom. The nearby laundromat has been recently retrofitted to bring a crescent of The Big Easy to Disney Springs.

Walking away from the main paths of The Lights District, The Distadium anchors it all. Acting as the heart that rejuvenated The Lights District bringing it up from nothing to something where no one would dare to even run on over. A large car factory that has sat dormant for years has recently been spurred back to life, and even its tiny gas station nearby has seen some activity. Completing the round trip will be a small diner that has stuck around through thick and thin, and the Springs Community Theater the center for cultural activity within the town of Disney Springs.

Area Description (Night)

At night The Lights District comes to life thanks to its titular lights. The exterior of Cirque du Soleil has become a light changing spectacle with colors changing the look of the building throughout the night. The neon lining the buildings and signs throughout The Lights District buildings giving the entire district a new atmosphere with a lively glow.

The fountain within Inspiration Plaza has begun to put on a mini light show in sync to the DSN75 radio station which has switched to popular songs heard at parties. Tricks of light make the tile mosaics of Dreamscapes and Fiesta Tropical dance throughout the night. The glass block windows of Sing It have light move through them like bars of music going up and down with how loud the singers are within. Lights hidden with the arch of the Sugar Rush Raceway make the imprinted tire seem to move.

Small lasers will be located throughout the district projecting dots onto the ground making the ground come to life as it seemingly dances. Large spotlights will be setup on top of the Dreamscapes building, Distadium, and back of Cirque du Soleil allowing for large spotlights of color to swing throughout the area allowing for large segments of color to run between buildings.

The lighting at night transform The Lights District into a district wide party where the fun never stops, and guests to the most happening place in all of Orlando.

Power Play: Flynn's Restroom

While bringing the 80s to Disney Springs with the Light District Expansion, the designers looked into what are the most iconic 80s experiences to bring to the Springs. Obviously, an arcade seemed like an obvious choice.

Of course, not far from the Light District is the former site of Disney Quest. Which sadly failed. With the prevalence of home consoles, mobile gaming, phone games, etc. large arcades are not really sustainable anymore. So, the question becomes: how to honor the arcades of the 80s in a practical way?

Toilets!

Well, bathrooms as a whole really.

At the corner of the building for The Grid: Laser Tag Arena will be the exterior for Flynn's. Unlike the arcade from the films, behind this brick facade will actually be the best restrooms on Walt Disney World property.

As guests enter the doors, they'll find a small lobby area. Comfy chairs, water fountains, vending machines for snacks and soda, emergency phone, and an AED. A first aid station will be connected to this lobby (somethings Disney Springs is sorely lacking). A few arcade machines (mostly Tron and Fix-it-Felix Jr) will be found in this lobby for only a quarter a play. A playlist of Journey music and other 80s pop will be played. Outlets for charging phones as well as a fuel rod station can be found here too. This will all help create a great, air conditioned space for tired park guests to recharge. A "rest room" if you will.

Of course, we've been burying the lead thus far. This little lobby is not the main attraction. This wasn't referred to as "the best restrooms on Disney property" because of the snazzy AEDs and nifty vending machines available outside.

For the men's room, Disney Springs will partner with Captive Media. Captive Media is a UK based company that designs short, simple video games for urinals that can be controlled by the urine stream using patented sensors (yes, this is real). New games using this system will be designed based on classic Tron arcade games. Veer a lightcycle left or right. Dodge ID Disks as they are thrown at the player character. Stuff like that.

Sadly, there is not an equivalent for the ladies room or the men's stalls. But even aside from the video game urinals, these are some pretty nice restrooms.

Floor to ceiling tiles surrounds the interior of the restrooms with mosaics replicating 80s style pixel art from Tron and other arcade games of the era (including fictional games like from Wreck-it-Ralph).

The floor will be an infinity mirror helping to complete the Tron aesthetic. It is important to note that, unless intentionally designed differently, infinity mirrors are no more reflective than glossy tiles, making it safe for people in dresses. For comfort reasons, the infinity mirror floors do not extend to the stalls/urinals, just near the sinks and entrances.

While it may not be the big draw of the Light District, Flynn's Restrooms will be an interesting and unique experience that demonstrates Disney's dedication to not overlook a single detail in the quest for excellence.

Ticketing

Guests can buy tickets for any of the attractions, entertainment, or club cover charges online or in person. However guests may look into bundles which can save them money. Below will be two separate bundles available year round for guests to purchase, but guests can look out for discounts throughout the year for even better deals!

Light Up Your Day Pass

The Light Up Your Day Pass offers guests a ticket with three entrances into any activity listed below for an entire day. Guests may choose one Tier One attraction, and two Tier Two attractions. Alternatively guests may do three Tier Two attractions. Tier One attractions cost at least $25 dollars, and Tier Two are experiences below that cost.

Tier One: Disney's Dreamscapes, Splitsville Luxury Lanes, The Void

Tier Two: Sugar Rush Go-Kart Raceway, The Grid Laser Tag, Aerophile Hot Air Balloon, Indoor Mini Golf, Rooftop Mini Golf, Winter Summerland Mini Golf, Fantasia Mini Golf, Horse Drawn Wagons at Disney's Fort Wilderness

Dinner + A Show Pass

Disney + A Show Pass will be a package deal offering people a meal at a select few table service restaurants throughout Disney Springs, and a seat for the show at either Cirque du Soleil, the Springs Community Theater, or the Distadium. This price is of course based off whatever seat guests pick for the show. Restaurants are listed below:
