Water Butts

Last year we advocated rainwater collection butts but with the drought conditions meant installing one would be too little too late and only the strongest plants would have survived.

So far it doesn't look like we'll have a repeat of last year's weather but rainwater is much more beneficial to your garden than processed tap water. Now is the time to be collecting it whilst it's readily available. Visit any one of our local DIY stores and you can connect up a water butt for around €50.

Portable Water Butt

Knowing that they will need to water any new planting areas caused the JTT a practical problem. There is no water supply at St Martha's Bridge, the Petrol Station, Athlumney Hall verge, none at the roundabouts or any of the planned locations. A water supply is vital.

A clever solution has been seen and they're going to attempt to create a portable water butt. We'll follow this up as soon as it's ready for use but if you see it out and about before the next edition send us a picture.

YOU can HELP

The JTT are conducting a quick survey of the Local Community to see how many residents do their small bit for the environment by collecting and using rainwater.

Simply tell them if you have a water butt and provide your general location.

The survey will then highlight if water conservation should become a focus issue for them to tackle.
