Stated in the Navan 2030 plan as one of Meath County Council's objectives is to "To support and facilitate the implementation of cycle lanes and associated cycle infrastructure upgrades as identified within the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network Plan, within the town centre in partnership with the National Transport Authority and other relevant stakeholders."
To help push this along the Navan Cycling Initiative voluntary group has created a Map of all the known cycle paths and low traffic routes within the Navan Neighbourhood. Students can cycle to avoid the school peak time traffic congestion and since most will live within a 10 to 15 min cycle of the Town Centre it could be far quicker to cycle than drive each day.
Together with identifying bicycle parking racks they have colour coded the routes:
Although the NA1 route, running from the Blackwater retail park to Kilcarn Bridge has not been officially confirmed,it has been illustrated since it could be a game changing piece of infrastructure knitting pieces together. Along with the Trim Road cycle path, it would facilitate the movement of people between most of the major education, leisure and retail areas of the town.
"Navan Cycling Initiative aims to make cycling in Navan safe, convenient and popular. We hope to encourage people to use cycling as part of their normal daily transport as well as a leisure activity and help Navan to become a cycle-friendly town."
