Behold, our list of frequently asked questions! Each one of these has been asked about fifty times, so I beg you to please read through thoroughly and familiarise yourself with them. Any questions you might have will likely be covered here, and it'll save us both time in determining if you want to join this guild!
This guild has absolutely zero tolerance on bigoted behaviour, on any orientation, identity, origin, belief, or otherwise. You will not be welcome, and you will very likely be removed on sight. Please treat others how you wish to be treated, and remain polite in all situations. If you have a problem with another member, please tell an officer.
Do not post NSFW imagery or text to the guild's discord server or public spaces, please use common sense and ask yourself, 'would I show this to my grandmother? Would I show this to a minor?' If the answer is no, then please do not make whatever joke you're thinking, or post whatever image you're thinking. Similarly, please do not post photos depicting IRL or realistic gore. This includes profile pictures in our discord server, please either use a SFW picture or use a server-profile.
Characters made with the intent to be sexualised, fetishised, or otherwise heavily NSFW are not allowed. We will not control what you do on alts, or in private, but please do not solicit ERP on guild related alts, or join on fetishised characters. This is a 12+ game, please treat anyone you meet with the potential that they are underage - including within the guild - and also respect that even adults do not consent to being a part of your fetish. If your character has adult themes in their background or off-screen, please be normal and mindful about it.
Do not disrupt or grief roleplay, inside or outside of our guild, for any reason. Complaints about you will be taken extremely seriously, and as long as our guild tag is under your name, you are responsible for our reputation. Please do not embarrass the rest of us.
Generative AI is banned in all its forms in this guild and its discord server. This includes PFP’s, character art, voices, memes, or all other shapes. We can’t police what you do outside here, but this is an unwelcome space for it.
Please avoid IC/OOC bleed, power-gaming, meta-gaming, or other roleplay disruptive behaviours. We are all playing to write a story, and we all want our own times to shine. Please keep your characters behaviours realistic to their own skills and lines of thinking. You are not your character, and it’s okay to lose sometimes.
We welcome all player of any roleplay experience, background, or lack thereof. We're a friendly and patient space, happy to teach people the ins and outs of roleplay. We all started somewhere!
We have no limitations on what class, race, or concept your character is - as long as it is realistic for them to be in the guild, and not outright lorebreaking. What is most important is that your character is compatible with their fellow guildmates - so, a warlock that enslaves entities, even if those entities are evil demons, may conflict with existing guild members. However, a warlock that makes trades and barters may be received more warmly.
To the Jackdaws, it matters more what someone's goals and direct methods are, rather than their origin or source of power.
The Jackdaws are a cross-faction guild blind to borders, and so they do not operate as part of the Horde nor the Alliance. While members of each may join, they must be able to collaborate among those typically associated with the opposite faction without threatening the mission. While we do enjoy IC conflict, if someone cannot tolerate the other races at least enough to work with them, then they will not realistically be accepted into the guild.
In 2023, Blizzard enabled the ability for guilds to be able to accept members regardless of faction. This means we operate just one in game guild, as well as a Discord. In order to see the TRP profiles of members of the opposite faction, we use the addon CrossRP - this is a necessary addon to be a part of our guild. We also use the item [Elixir of Tongues] in order to understand what members of the opposite faction say - which, again, is a necessary item to be part of our guild.
We fully encourage realistic reactions appropriate to your characters, and conflicts to potentially happen over disagreements. Conflict is the spice of roleplay, and can make it so much more fun. Why does getting along matter if it's mandatory?
However, there are realistic limitations with this. For example, if it doesn't make sense for other characters to keep tolerating yours with no redemption, then it's only realistic your character leaves or is left behind. Additionally, IC conflict does not mean that you should be upset with someone OOCly. And, if you are upset with someone OOC, that should not influence your IC relations with them. The two must remain separate.
...People actually play this game? And don't just treat it like a dress-up simulator?
The actual answer is while we don't really organise anything like that, if you ever wanted to ask for it there's high changes that someone will be willing to join in and help you out on what you're doing. We have a few people who do content, even if we are not a content guild. But, generally, you might find another guild or community better if that's something you're looking for.
On most days, roleplay in the Jackdaws mostly consists of spontaneous, community driven RP wherever we feel like hanging out on a given day, usually in hubs like Booty Bay or Dawn's Blossom, letting our characters develop their friendships in the downtime between events - though danger can often be found in the unlikeliest places, and even simple evenings with the Jackdaws are liable to turn for the worse, whether that be through plain mischief and shenanigans, or something more sinister. Either way, you're not likely to find us sitting around for long, and while we do have plenty of slice-of-life RP, our goal is to provide evolving storylines that can be engaged with alongside our characters' daily lives.
Outside of social RP, Saturdays tend to be DMed campaign events, where the Jackdaws deal with their most pressing threats. Our events are entirely player-driven - your character's choices and actions will affect the story. Often storylines can be progressed outside of events, sometimes via personal DMing, or a dedicated channel in our discord for general character happenings.
The Jackdaws are proud to feature homebrewed stories, factions, and lore - from guild-wide events to personal character stories. These things will never be lorebreaking, and are created to compliment Warcraft lore as something brand new to explore, like new expansions in Warcraft.
Similarly, if you find creative ways to interpret and build on the canonical lore of Warcraft, then we would be interested in investigating that too!
We don't demand that you attend any particular roleplay, or even attend regularly. You can come and go as you please and enjoy roleplay at your own pace - this isn't a second job, and we'll never treat it as such. All we ask is if you aren't around for many months, we'll probably check in and ask if you want to leave the guild and rejoin when you're ready for roleplay again. As much as we like to talk to people socially, we try to keep the guild to just active members, even if we are loose with what we consider active.
We try to keep the guild light-weight on addons, so we won't ask you to add in dozens of different ones - just the absolute necessary ones to make roleplay at all functional, especially cross faction.
For addons, it is necessary for you to have Total Roleplay 3 and Total Roleplay 3: Extended to see other profiles and items other players have created, without it, you will have little idea what is going on. You will also need CrossRP, in order to see the TRP's of members of the opposite faction.
For items, you will need plenty of [Elixir of Tongues] in order to understand players of other factions, which you can get from the sewers of the Legion instance of Dalaran.
Unfortunately, to put it simply, the guild features in World of Warcraft absolutely suck and there's not much we can do about it. So we do require members of the guild to have a Discord account where they can keep up to date on the guild's activities, as well as to discuss with officers about your recruitment into our guild.
Please contact one of our officers! You are always welcome to message one of us at any time, for any reason, whether that is in game, on discord, or over BattleNet. You can find details on how to do that on our Contact page!
No. This guild is a strictly AI-free space, and we request you do not join if you wish to use or endorse it.
Of course, we cannot control or police what you do outside of this guild, but it must not be used in our guild spaces at any time for any reason. We would rather roleplay with you, the person, instead of ChatGPT. You do not need artwork to be in our guild, you can write - to the best of your ability - descriptions, or even draw things yourself. We would sooner cherish a crayon drawing than AI slop.
There are plenty of free resources online that you can use instead of AI, for free, that will not harm the planet by using.
Yeah, and for each question, we have been asked it fifty times. So I am on my hands and my knees as I beg you to please not repeat any of these questions to me, unless you're confused by any of the wording!
Message an officer, and we'll be able to answer it for you!
Whoah! Easy there! It's important to us that we recruit based on quality and not quantity - that is to say, we would rather take our time getting to know you, than just inviting anyone and everyone into the guild. To do this, we just have a few simple steps that you can follow in order to join the guild - and, if after following those steps you still believe we are the space for you, we can discuss adding you in. You can learn more about this on our Recruitment page!
If you need to contact us for any reason, you can talk with an officer in the following places.
Please, never be afraid to get in touch if there is anything we can do for you, even if unrelated to joining our guild.
