In the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), chainsaw qualifications are categorized into three levels: Trim and Cut Felled Trees (TFT), Tree Felling Intermediate (TFI), and Tree Felling Fireline (Advanced) (TFF). These levels correspond to increasing complexity and risk associated with chainsaw operations, with TFF involving the most hazardous situations.
Here's a breakdown of each level:
Trim and Cut Felled Trees (TFT):
This level focuses on clearing or moving fallen timber and trees, including tasks like trimming branches and cutting felled trees into manageable lengths.
Tree Felling Intermediate (TFI):
This level covers the felling of trees that are not on a fire line and are not defective or affected by fire.
Tree Felling Fireline (Advanced) (TFF):
This is the most advanced level and involves felling trees on a fire line or when the tree is defective (e.g., damaged, leaning, or weakened by fire).
