Alter Schlachthof

"Alter Schlachthof" is an architecturally striking building complex with a total area of around 2,000 m² in the immediate vicinity of the city centre of Eupen. It was built between 1901 and 1903 in the Prussian industrial style of the Gründerzeit and served as a municipal slaughterhouse until 1991.

Since 1993 and even during the reconstruction phase, Chudoscnik Sunergia and other associations have used the rooms and its extraordinary atmosphere for cultural events of all kinds. Concerts, theatre performances, art exhibitions, large-scale interactive projects and some sensational happenings met with a great deal of interest from the public, who were always fascinated by the special charisma, the lighting conditions and the interesting architecture of the former municipal slaughterhouse.

Under the supervision of the architect Daniel Dethier, the complete transformation of the old slaughterhouse from an industrial building to a cultural centre was realised.
