Chapter 1 - The Apple  Blossom Festival

The Coopers Guild of Waymeet was throwing their annual Apple Festival. Rougnedda participated in the Apple Blossom Boxing Match and defeated  the half-orc, Crassis in glorious combat, while the Otto, Cronut, Roscoe, and Typhoon perused the market looking for high end liquor and Feo sought out information about a certain treacherous dwarf. All were drawn in by the spectacle of Rougnedda's surprise victory over Crassis. While the crowd sought to hoist Rougnedda up on their shoulders, the jubilant atmosphere cracked and fell away as a maimed halfing zombie crawled into the courtyard moaning for help.

After an attempted turning of the zombie, the party learned that the village of Visili was besieged by the undead. The halfing zombie was one of the Returned and he knew enough to seek help for his still living family. That didn't stop Otto from putting a crossbow bolt through his brainpan, much to the dogmatic delight of Ingra, the Ranite priest who stood near by.

Inspired by the though of a trapped family assailed by the living dead, the party set out due west, toward the village of Visili. They arrived in the evening. Feo snuck up to assess the situation and found skeletons and zombies wandering about the town as if they were preparing for their evening meal. Upon looking in the adjacent homes, Feo found dead occupants sprawled on the floor, dead about a week.

The party snuck about the village looking for signs of survivors before they stumbled on the church and a large mill stone sitting next to a shattered window. The party elected to enter the church and climb the steeple to see what was around the town. To the north, they spotted a mill with a small attached home with a faint light glowing in the window. As the party left the church to go investigate the mill, the sound of crunching glass from the busted windows aroused the suspicions of the zombies, who moved to investigate.

After being contacted by Orlen Bach, Feo Lonn rallied his friends (who totally think he's awesome) to confront Bach (who is totally not awesome). They travelled to Bindings, a neighborhood in Waymeet, where Bach was staying. Feo and Otto confronted Bach and threatened him over his seeming betrayal of the aforementioned awesome Feo Lonn. Bach swore neither he, nor Split-lip Jeanie were responsible for the knife that found Feo's gut, but rather the creature known as Thrusker, whose brain grew legs and went on a walk about while Feo fled the halls of Keldar that Was. Further, Feo claimed that Split-lip Jeanie was being held by a group of dwarves in neighboring district, Crateston.

Feo, eager to see Bach and Jeanie's slates wiped clean one way or another, escorted Bach on the point of a dagger to Crateston. Bach lead the party to a region of Crateston where House Lorthar's warehouse was located. Gradually, the mixed race population gave way to  depressed, slow-moving dwarves. Once outside the warehouse, the party found a clan Lorthar guard and three depressed dwarves. After some flirting by Rougnedda's attendants and a stealthy circuit of the building, Rougnedda dismissed her attendants while the rest of the party snuck into a mezzanine level of the warehouse. Otto magic'd the window open while Roscoe scaled the wall and dropped a rope down for his companions to join him.

With practiced efficiency, Feo removed the hinges (solid, dwarven hinges) from the door and the party snuck a glance into the warehouse. Three Lorthar guards stared intently  at a tied up prisoner, the elusive Splitlip Jeanie. Jeanie appeared drugged, her eyes unfocused and staring at the ground will resting on her shoulders was a contraption made of brass with long, thin articulated legs plunging into her hair and disppearing into her skull.

Meanwhile, a thin figure roughly 6 feet tall quietly observed the prisoner while stroking a four-legged brain covered in a transparent, chitinous membrane. Behind the Observer, were three glowing blue flasks about 12 inches in diameter and 18 inches tall; one of which contained a floating brain.

The party elected to stage a distraction, sending Rougnedda and Bach, while the rest of the party staged the rescue of Jeanie. As Rougnedda and Bach slapped around the Lorthar guardsman out front, his head was lopped off and split like an overripe melon, exposing a four-legged brain. Three more clan Lorthar guards left the warehouse and the Observer released his pet brain to join the fray. At the same time, Otto dropped a rope around Jeanie while Cronut and Roscoe hoisted her up to the mezzanine. As the wizard cleared the railing, her hair swept forward revealing a 3-inch diameter hole in her skull, where the brass arms probed the the soft gray folds of her brain.
