The elves of the Ardeg are the last remnants of the vast Dominion of Breeze through the Boughs. The memory of the Elves is long and their enmity with their neighbor Dawindar foments a quite foreboding on the banks of Eld Sehline. The Dawinese are forbidden entrance to the forests and it is said to be death to enter the river Waters.
Elves periodically leave their forests seeking knowledge and adventure. Their graceful skiffs can be seen in Dawin's Bay carrying cargo and people from through Loric's Ferry and points beyond. They avoid traveling through the lands of Dawindar and if they do, they attempt evasion rather than deception.
Governance of the Ardeg falls upon the royal family. The current monarch, Queen Ain'Helia Crethsiene, is known internally as an exceptionally even tempered ruler - even among the long lived. She is at the end of her years and is beginning to show signs of age. She saw her people through the Upheaval and the lean years that followed. She's content with her rule and is eagerly awaiting the birth of her second grandchild.
While the monarch has the final say, there are is a royal council that divides the minutiae of rulership and advises on matters of import. The council consists of the leader of the Thangailvairë, the Marshall of Elvendom, The Bagroncante, Mazarbre of Lorboric, and a the Tercanosúru. Generally the consort of the monarchy sits on the council, but propriety dictates they keep their thoughts their own.
Treeholm of Eld Vistani
This city is a sprawling grove of immense trees and the seat of governance for the Ardeg. Graceful arches of shellacked wood span the gaps between the trees, partially occluded by foliage and brightly hued cloth walls. The people of Eld Vistani make their homes on sculpted platforms with yurt like tents and woven branches huts.
Ordo Lingwilla
Home of the Thangailvairë, the community of Ordo Lingwilla supports the arcanists in their efforts to protect the Ardeg. The community follows the nature-blending design ascetic of the smaller communities, while the arcanists higher on the outcropping dispense with the pretenses of fitting into their surroundings. Three crystaline structures wreath the tip of the spire, rotating in opposing directions. It is said that as long as the rings spin, the Ardeg will remain a refuge of the elves.
Loric's Ferry
Not quite a part of Ardeg, this humanoid settlement on the eastern shore where the Eld Vintas meets the Eld Sehline. Elves trade with the humans, dwarves, and halfings of this community. The only point for land-based trade, the people of Loric's Ferry are governed by a town council. The council follows the lead of their 'elder brothers'. It's said the the winds that rustle the trees of the Ardeg are the very winds that hold the Ferry's flags aloft.
Smaller Settlements
Smaller settlements of 10 to 20 family groups inhabit loose settlements throughout the forests. These settlements are designed to seamlessly blend into their surrounds. Unlike Eld Vistani, these small enclaves lack colorful adornment outside the home. Each member of the community pitches in on the day to day tasks. As such, the last couple hours of daylight are spent on crafts mastered over their long lives. A community may have tools or workshops for many more disciplines than they have practitioners.
