Raven Hicks is a senior at KSU and is getting a degree in Public Health Education. She would love to become a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) in the future. She wants to be able to advocate for Type Ones and educate to bring more awareness to the T1D community. She joined CDN, because she loves to meet new Diabetics and wanted to feel like she had a friend at school that knew exactly what she was going through.

Biography: Dr. Ann M. Bennett was born and raised in Southside Chicago. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from The University of Tennessee. She joined the faculty at Kennesaw State University in 2015, and she is currently an Assistant Professor of Reading Education in the Department of Secondary & Middle Grades Education. Dr. Bennett's research focuses on countering dominant deficit discourses and perspectives affecting marginalized and minoritized communities through the use of photovoice and experimental and progressive ethnographic methods. She currently teaches graduate research methods courses and mentors graduate students in educational research. In 2018-2019, she served as a Diversity Faculty Fellow in the area of Disability with KSU’s Center for Diversity Leadership and Engagement in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. In 2017, Dr. Bennett gave a TEDx Talk entitled "An Invisible Disability in an Able-Bodied World: The Reality of Living With Type 1 Diabetes" about her experiences living with an invisible disability and chronic illness.

Dr. Bennett abhors long walks on the beach and any other activity that requires her to leave her house and much prefers to spend endless hours in front of a computer or television. She also uses her geek powers for good by introducing new converts to the Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Supernatural fandoms, to name but a few.
