In 2018, The CDN at KSU, with the support of the Bagwell College of Education's Standing Committee for Diversity, sent a proclamation to the President of Kennesaw State University, Pamela S. Whitten, asking her to declare November 14, 2018, Diabetes Awareness Day at Kennesaw State University. Internationally, November 14 is recognized as World Diabetes Day in recognition of the birthday of Frederick Banting, the man who co-discovered insulin. World Diabetes Day has become an international campaign co-coordinated by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization to raise awareness about diabetes. In the United States, individuals with Type 1 Diabetes and their families often ask state and local governments to sign proclamations declaring November 14 to be Diabetes Awareness Day. Although The CDN at KSU was unsuccessful in having its proclamation signed, Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation declaring November to be Diabetes Awareness Month in the state of Georgia. The CDN at KSU will be trying again in 2019. Below is the proclamation that we presented in 2018 and will be presenting again with updated statistics in 2019.
