Tell us a bit about yourself and when you started CrossFit
I’ve been overweight and struggling with weight-loss for the most part of my adult life (25 years). I have always been very conscious of the way I look and was always trying to get active and lose weight. I have joined gyms, tried spinning and aerobics classes but it all only lasted a few months.
What was your lifestyle before joining CFL?
I started my current weight-loss journey in Aug 2019 (Weighing 115kg) by following the Banting eating plan and walking for 30min 3 times weekly. It helped me to lose 10 kg by Feb’20 but I hit a plateau and was very discouraged. I still felt unfit and couldn’t do a lot with my children (5 and 10 at that stage). I also struggled to stay positive and wanted to have something to look forward to.
What changes did you notice after starting CrossFit and how do you believe it has helped you?
The 1st thing that changed was my outlook on life. After each CrossFit workout I felt like I’ve conquered the world. Some exercise/movements I told myself I was never going to be able to do and now I’m actually looking forward to it. I’m much stronger and fit and can do so many things with my kids without wanting to die. I’ve also lost 15kg and 3 dress sizes in the 11 months since I’ve joined in Feb 2020. Apart from the weight I’ve lost my health in general improved. I also have big dreams and hopes for my life and look forward to what is still to come. My husband even commented “I think you found your thing” when he realised how much I enjoyed CrossFit. I was initially doing 3 sessions a week and it soon changed to 5 or 6 sessions.
What are your current views about CrossFit and would you recommend CFL to friends and family?
CrossFit is a community of warm, strong and supportive people that would do anything to help you accomplish your fitness goals. They can scale literally any exercise or movement if you are unable to do it. I would recommend CFL to anyone wanting to move better and be healthy. I was so nervous the 1st day I stepped into CFL, but it changed immediately. I felt welcome from day one and are now addicted to the cheers from everyone.
