I’ve been overweight and struggling with weight-loss for the most part of my adult life (25 years). I have always been very conscious of the way I look and was always trying to get active and lose weight. I have joined gyms, tried spinning and aerobics classes but it all only lasted a few months....

I am a person who always had a low self esteem regarding my body. I hate going to gym as I always get lost and don't know what to do. I enjoy eating chocolates and drinking wine. :) I started Crossfit in September 2017 - this was the day my life changed...
Tell us a bit about yourself and when you started CrossFit
I started Crossfit on 7 February 2019. To be honest, if someone would have told me one year ago that I will start Crossfit AND enjoy it, I would have burst out in laughter! The little I did try to exercise was because I was forced to and then also hated it. I ate whatever I liked in whatever volume to soothe my hunger at the time. Looking back now, I cannot believe how unhealthy I lived. I could easily finish 5 chocolates, one after the other...

I grew up on a farm in the Durbanville area and went to Rondebosch Boys High where I matriculated in 1989. Sport always used to play a big role in my life during those years. My fondest memories takes me back to the days that I was part of the provincial u.19 basketball team for 3 years as well as the Maties u.21 rugby team. After completing a B Agric Admin degree at Stellenbosch University, I returned to the farm and sadly never had the discipline to be involved with any form of sport or gym - partly due to a busy schedule, but mainly due to a sedentary lifestyle. My love for CrossFit started approximately three and a half years ago when my wife and daughters encouraged me to give it a try....
